Outrage at penalty decision and Ederson kung fu kick; Man City fans’ goal celebrations mocked

There was outrage at a penalty decision and Ederson kung fu kick while Man City fans’ goal celebrations were heavily mocked.

Five goals were scored by Erling Haaland to propel Man City into the quarter-finals of Champions League, beating RB Leipzig 7-1 at the Etihad.

After a 1-1 first leg draw in Germany, the game was precariously balanced. But, City’s opponents had their pants pulled down by Haaland in the first half. He also added two more goals before the hour, taking him to 39 goals for the season.

Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne also scored the other goals, but the night belonged to the 22 year old Norwegian, becoming the first man to score five goals in a Champions League match in nine years.

And it could easily have been more for Haaland if Pep Guardiola hadn’t subbed him off.

@ab7ronnyy cant convince me that they have good fans 😭 #mancity #funny #fans #haaland #uefa ♬ original sound – ab9football

City’s dominance in the opening stages meant that their lead was more than deserved. However, there was controversy in the manner of their first goal has caused controversy.

They were awarded a penalty following a VAR check for a handball on Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs, who hadn’t been facing the ball when it struck his arm, and after looking at the replay, referee Slavko Vincic surprised by pointing to the spot, Haaland netting his penalty moments later to make it 2-1 City on aggregate.

After Kevin de Bruyne’s stomping effort hit the crossbar, Haaland was quick to add his second goal by heading home.

City goalkeeper Ederson was let off the hook on 34 minutes as he escaped punishment after clattering into Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer with what fans called a ‘kung fu move’ as can be seen below.

As mentioned, there is outrage at the penalty decision and a kung fu kick from Ederson while Man City fans’ goal celebrations were mocked…

ON EDERSON:

@craigpayne08: No foul? No free kick? No card of either colour? Outrageous! Awful officiating!

@Spurs_Optimist: I don’t understand how that’s not a red card.

@liambellhaven: I thought touching the ball is irrelevant these days? Gets basically nothing of the ball anyway, even if there’s a slight touch Ederson still wipes the player out, ref got that wrong

@alfiexlee: Most blatant red card 😂 that is shocking officiating

@TomboMufc7: Corruption at its finest, For as good as city are playing you can’t tell me this game ain’t corrupt

@ShaunTrott4: The favouritism by the officials in charge of VAR is clear for all to see. How that wasn’t a foul or a booking is beyond a joke. They’ve been paid off 💰

@Chep13: That was absolutely scandalous decision by the ref

@EmmaHam41: In what, cash smuggling, cheating, corrupt, crypto agreement, check the referee’s bank account world does Werner get a yellow for this and Ederson gets nothing?!

@ian_waterfall: Both feet off the floor misses the ball…. Anyone and anywhere else on the field attempting to tackle like that is a straight red

@fpl_whiskey: Perfectly legal kung fu kick… cant see the problem 🤣🤣

@NotoriousLFC: How is this not a red for Ederson. 😂 Proof football is corrupt.

@petch_dave: This game has been officiated horrendously!

@darrell_mc: Between the ghost handball and then that I switched it over. They are just making it up as they go along now…

ON THE CELEBRATIONS

@ad_sharps: They must have 20 – 30% tourist fans now. Terrible club.

@1986mufc: City probably paying random people off the street to fill the stadium 😂

@arrgeearr: Fully convinced they have someone go around the city centre during the day before a game handing out tickets to random people. Like they did in Qatar for the World Cup.

@DcfcKirk: True blue Manchester City fans gone with memories back in the day with the blonde haired woman ringing her bell 🔔, those days have sadly gone along with Derby fans who lost the Baseball ground in the 90’s.

@DrippyUTD1: Hope no one got hurt

@NathanPatrick84: They’ve been spoilt for too long now

@fulham__pat: Geezer there looks like he’s having the worst night of his life. Makes you wonder why some bother

@Berno1991: Would take the Championship for the rest of my days if it stopped us turning into this #lufc

@LainQT: Imagine going from 80k at Dortmund, yellow wall going berserk and all, to this pathetic bunch of “fans”.

@LUFC_andaColdie: That’s what happens when you price out the real fans. Top league football is about money sadly, not community and real supporters.

@grimsby_82: Not seen limbs like that since The Cuckoo Lane end Oxford in 89-90 featuring the flying Leeds fan.

@TommyEganAFC: Plastics

@joelsam7: I’ve seen better limbs at my sons football games!

@dempseyscott333: They look like the “fans” at the World Cup… 😄

@bobbyw66: City used to have great support- if this is what mega bucks brings who wants that!?

@Nath_Dillon: That’s so embarrassing 😂😂

@ReeceBridge: Fucking state of it 🤢🤢
