Olly Murs praised for taking time to speak to much loved non league fan James Beardwell

Olly Murs have been praised on social media for taking time to speak to much loved non league fan James Beardwell on his vlog this weekend.

The well-known singer and presenter, has a strong connection with Witham Town Football Club, having been a fan of the club since his youth and has even played for the club.

In 2016, Olly a director of the club after being invited by his uncle, former Colchester midfielder John Pollard, who was helping the club’s, Graeme Smith.

Olly has been involved in various activities to support the club, including sponsoring kits and tracksuits, funding floodlights, and playing for the team to keep himself fit for Soccer Aid events.

On a Twitter post by @JamesBeardwell, Olly can be seen speaking to James over the game, team, and passion for football as well his dedication to supporting Witham Town.

James: I’m now with my very special guest, Olly Murs.

Olly: Great to be here, mate. Great to be here.

James: Good, thank you. It’s been a real pleasure for interviewing you today.

Olly: Well, its nice to be back at Witham Town, where I used to play. Obviously, I come from Witham, so it’s always an honour to come here and obviously see you.

James: Definitely 100%. I remember that over the years. And then we used to sing together up in the George and the…

Olly: Well I, we were saying off air, we’ve been. Well, I’ve known you since probably about 2005. Used to be singing in the Albert and some would say you inspired me to do the X Factor, James.

James: The X Factor. Yeah. That was before we both became famous. Like, you went the X Factor and I was on The Undateables series five, episode two, and like. And I appeared on Sky Sports News as well in 2018.

Olly: Really? I love that.

James: I remember when I was on my own at Witham, away at Grays Athletic, and then somebody shot the footage of me singing ‘Beardwell’s on fire’. And then the social media went absolutely mad and then the social media went mad in the mainstream I stream around the world.

Olly: What I love, James, what I think everyone loves when they watch your videos is your passion, your pure passion for football. You absolutely love it. What people don’t realise is on a Saturday afternoon, the travelling you guys do when you go to every game, you know, you get your flag up, you bring all your equipment and, you know, you’re just passionate about football, aren’t you?

James: 100%, yeah, that’s what it’s all about. And, like, and then it was a real experience to be on Sky Sports News.

Olly: What was that like then?

James: It was a great experience. I really enjoyed it. I was during the match against Heybridge Swifts when we drew 1-1, that was February 2018 and that was on Sky Sports News in that game. And then Adam Flint used to be manager and that was a real experience for me on Sky Sports.

Olly: You had a good team back then, didn’t you?

James: We had a good team. And that was on the day when Witham Town stayed up that season. And then we went on to finish 11th in the league under Adam Flint, he was manager, and it was like a really good season for Witham Town that season.

Olly: What would you think of this team now, the current team you just watched today?

James: I’m absolutely ecstatic with the team because, like, we have been, like, superb under Garry Kimble and since Garry came back in his second full term and he is Witham close to his heart and he has a passion for Witham Town. And that is why I’m delighted and ecstatic to have Garry Kimble back as Whitham Town manager.

Olly: Nice. Well, it looks like, to be fair, I really enjoyed today’s game, considering my cousin’s team’s like a YouTube team, obviously, in the Essex Senior League. So to come and play you guys today, we know what league you’re in. Obviously, I was there with Coggeshall, so I know the standard well.

James: Yeah, definitely.

Olly: That was a really good game. Apart from the sending off, which was a shame, young lad, elbowing someone. Don’t really want to see that on a Saturday afternoon, but it was a good game. I enjoyed it.

James: Yeah. Remember in August 2018, Coggleshall, when my lot lost, he came out of it.

Olly: Cut to the clip on this. Watch this clip. This is us back in 2018.

James: Yeah, yeah. Watch the previous clip. Our time, I was losing 1-0 and Ollie said, rubbish. You’re talking rubbish. 1-0 so far. Come on, the boys. That’s what you said.

Olly: Yeah. You know, but I think because. No, because you were saying that we were playing terrible. Of course you didn’t deserve to win. I was like, we won the lot. Have you went on to win two nil?

James: Yeah, went on to win 2-0. You had a really good team. I think we ever lost the issue, boys, actually. No. Okay. And then, like, Coggleshall Town played superb against our lot in August 2018.

Olly: We had a good team, our team, but, no, it was great to be here today. Great to see you, great for Witham, great to see some old faces and yeah, I’ve loved it.

James: Thank you so much for your time, Ollie, pleasure as my special guest and great pleasure.

Olly: Beardwells on fire!
