Oldham boss exits with club searching for their TENTH manager since 2018

Oldham Athletic boss Keith Curle reportedly exits with the League Two club searching for their TENTH manager since 2018 it would seem.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who first broke the news via his personal Twitter account, the fourth tier side have lost yet another boss.

Curle was appointed by the North West club in March and kept them in the EFL last season – but following a dreadful performance in midweek, he’s had enough.

His side have struggled so far for the 2021/22 campaign and are currently positioned in 22nd place.

They fell to a 2-1 defeat at Northampton Town and are only two points above the relegation zone.

Curle has had plenty of experience within the English Football League with his total count of game sin charge of standing at 550.

Before joining Oldham, he had previously been at Mansfield Town, Torquay United, Notts County, Carlisle United and Northampton Town.

It comes just hours after reports stated that the he was not “shying away” from the position the club find themselves in after Tuesday’s defeat by Northampton Town.

The Latics have now lost 11 times this season, more than any other League Two team, and are 22nd in the table.

A stormy season off the pitch has also seen fans protest several times against the club’s ownership.

“I know where I am and I know where the football club are, I don’t shy away from it,” he told BBC Radio Manchester with claimed he kept the team in the dressing room for over an hour he was that angry. He also kept the media waiting, leaving many wondering what was going on behind the scenes.

After being asked whether he had support from the club, as well as from sporting director Mohamed Lemsagam, Curle added: “The support that I need comes on the pitch.

“The second half performance, we need more of that. That’s what gives us a chance and the opportunity to get the football club out of trouble and on the path to where we need to be.”

Curle, who was on his first return to Sixfields since he was sacked by Northampton in February having taken them up, took more than an hour to speak to the media following the defeat.

“I’ve got a bad habit of telling players the truth and when I say a bad habit, some players don’t like it but those players will go on a journey and I sincerely wish them well,” Curle added.

“I have been demanding more and when somebody doesn’t deliver what I believe that they’re capable of then I tell them. I tell them in a way that sinks in. There’s an easy way of telling them, and using a lot of expletives, but the modern day players don’t respond to that.”
