Notts County fans have been left frustrated after owner Alan Hardy’s fresh claims less than 24 hours after a takeover deal failed to be agreed.
He told Nottinghamshire Live that the much anticipated takeover for the National League side would be finalised yesterday, with a Danish consortium set to become the new owners.
No deal happened was announced, causing an uproar from Magpies fans, especially with their side looking set to be given a winding-up petition at High Court at the end of the month over the £250,000 unpaid tax bill.
Journalist Leigh Curtis revealed that after hearing of the no takeover deal, it has left staff employees outraged. He goes on ‘Understand they’ve been told it’s ‘highly unlikely’ they will be paid on Friday.’
Since then, Hardy have spoken out, claiming yet again that a deal “will get done very soon”.
He told TheBusinessDesk.com: “It has been slightly delayed.
“It’s a complex and complicated transaction as it is on a pure debt-free basis with creditor claims, historic loans and arrangements from years and years ago having to be resolved.
“I absolutely appreciate staff, fans and stakeholders are really concerned but lawyers from both sides are working around the clock and remain confident that it will get done very soon.”
Nottinghamshire Live add that ‘a consortium including Colin Dodd and convicted fraudster Alex May are still interested in buying the National League side, in a land-based acquisition deal’ though this will no doubt be turned down by the city council.
For a takeover to happen, Hardy also needs to have the loans written off.
The Haydn Green Estate, one of the biggest creditors at Meadow Lane due to a £1m loan, are ‘considering its options’ with suggestions they could save the club.
Only (slightly) positive to report is that an MP has asked Serie A side Juventus to help them out with a kit, with the help of their 116 year old bond with each other.
The new first team kits are currently stuck in a warehouse, yet to be revealed or worn by players for the new season.
After learning of what Alan Hardy had to say, fans took to vent their frustration as they count the days of their expected court date on the 31st of July – check out what they had to say on the next page.
