Nottingham Forest owner issues statement over speculation from talkSPORT on Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis issues a statement over speculation from talkSPORT on the future of manager Steve Cooper.

The morning after Forest fell to a 2-1 defeat despite having been 1-0 up, talkSPORT claimed that the club were ‘close to parting with manager Steve Cooper’.

The result extended their winless run to eight games, an even prior to the game, there was claims by the Daily Mail that Forest were plotting to appoint Patrick Vieira, this however isn’t true.

A statement from Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis:

“No one denies that our Club is in a difficult position in the Premier League, but we wish to end the speculation and the false and disruptive reporting in the media to confirm that Steve Cooper remains our manager at Nottingham Forest.

“We have all been disappointed with recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of hard work needs to be done to address this urgently. Results and performances must improve immediately.

“Now is the time for everyone connected with our club, from us as owners, to the board, our supporters, backroom staff, coaches and players – to come together and fight to secure our status in the Premier League.

“There can be no time for distractions, rumours and speculation. There is only time for hard work, determination, a commitment from Steve and the players to getting the results we need and, of course, the continued magnificent support of the fans of Nottingham Forest.”

Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison inspired a first-half Leeds comeback to floor Nottingham Forest.

Orel Mangala’s opener cancelled out as Leeds soar up to 13th in Premier League while Forest sit above relegation zone on goal difference.

Leeds United manager Javi Gracia: “I’m very pleased because it was a very good performance. As a consequence, we got a good result and made a very important step. To get this win with our supporters in this moment is massive.

“The most important thing for us is to play with our supporters, their support is invaluable. The quality is there [to sustain survival bid]. I have very good players with high quality, their commitment and desire is very high.

“Points are always important, but they are even more important when there are 10 games to go. For the confidence and spirit of the team it’s always important to get good results and keep things going.”

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper: “We had a decent enough start getting the goal, but our failure to build on that is really what has cost us.

“From the goal to half-time we really fell short with that performance. We didn’t show enough bravery with the ball, not enough technique or courage, and for that we didn’t manage to build any momentum.

“At the same time, without the ball we were too passive, there was too much space between lines, and we were too easy to beat. We gave Leeds momentum and rhythm, and they made the most of it.”

This is what fans said as the Nottingham Forest owner issues a statement over speculation from talkSPORT on Steve Cooper…

@MatttDavey: Really really well done! This must have been seriously hard to call, but I’m so glad we’ve backed our manager after 23 years of the revolving door. Thank you big man! Let’s hope this gives the players a big boost. COYR!

@trentendlocal: Genuinely just got goosebumps reading this

@Stuart_Clarkson: Great news, I hope we stay up & our players performances improve. If we do get relegated I don’t think there’s another manager who would galvanise the City, fans & club more than Steve Cooper. History shows that Burnley were right to stick with Dyche after relegation. #NFFC

@gemlford: Great job Mr Marinakis. Hopefully the players and staff can settle down now the speculation has ended. Come on You Reds! #NFFC

@FoodFunForest: Fair play to Mr. Marinakis for this – it can’t have been an easy decision. Hopefully the manager and players will repay this with improved performances and keep us up this season. #NFFC

@Ireland_2012: Honestly emotional after reading that given the imminent feelings after last night. The bad reporting didn’t help that. Now we push on as Marinakis has said. Let’s pull together and do this. Thank you! WOW! U REEEEDDDDSSSS 💪🏼💪🏼🌳♥️ #nffc

@Mitchell_NFFC: Massive statement. Players to step up and make his work easier from saturday please 🙏🏻

@JonnyHeald6: The best bit of business EM will do. Superb Forest. Simply superb.

@DanielJ46083413: He deserves to finish the season. He did an incredible job to get them up, he’s had a lot of players to integrate and done well with that. And he would be the best person to rebuild if they go down.

@RedDogCam: Don’t underestimate our power and influence as #NFFC fans. No matter what a few will try and say to you. Our voices are heard. 👍 for those vehemently backing Cooper. #CooperIn

@sportyceratops: Yessssss get in. Even if we go down he is THE BEST manager to get us back. We had a surprise promotion, had no players and he has assembled a great core of quality hungry young players. We just trim off the fat at EOS and make the cash back and up we go. Still have a chance!!!!

@kylebooth3186: Well said BIG MAN hope we are rewarded for you keeping the faith time for the players to step up !!

@IsaacRobbo2008: I wanted to cooper to get sacked I’m not gonna lie. But after hearing this and the fan base, I’ve changed my mind. This should get them fired up again, get something out of villa and Man Utd are poor recently. COYR ❤️

@lloseby: Massive backing from the board going into the Villa game for the second time this season. Come on boys, turn this around

@sammarshall_05: the fact majority of our fan base think this will be a turning point, constantly thinking our away performances will improve “turn it around against villa” a team now chasing european football is beyond me, 8 games without a win, home form turned dire still 6 points away

@ian7363: Thank you Evangelos @mil7iadis . Now the players need to pull their weight and pull their fingers out , and commit fully to the fight to stay in the Premier League.
