Nottingham Forest have sacked their first team manager Martin O’Neill, just under a week after assistant manager Roy Keane departed the club.
O’Neill took charge when Forest were four points behind 6th, however come the end of the 2018/19 Championship season, he was unable to guide them to a playoff spot, falling eight points short.
Journalist Daniel Taylor first broke the news, stating on Twitter “Martin O’Neill has lost his job at Nottingham Forest. A number of key players have increasingly turned against him. It’s reached the top of the club and I’m told he’s been sacked, five months since taking job.”
He added: “NFFC want quick appointment to minimise disruption. The name I’ve heard is Sabri Lamouchi, a Frenchman (client of Jorge Mendes) who has previously managed Rennes and the Ivory Coast national team.”

Just minutes later, Nottingham Forest have revealed that Sabri Lamouchi will be their new head coach.
The statement of his arrival says: “Lamouchi was most recently in charge of Rennes in the French top flight, taking them from the relegation places to qualify for the Europa League in 2017-18.
“He also led the Ivory Coast to the 2014 World Cup as the top-ranked side in Africa and the quarter-finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, and won the Qatari Cup and reached the Asian Champions League semi-finals during his time at El Jaish SC.
“Lamouchi also had a distinguished playing career, making over 470 appearances for clubs such as Monaco, Parma, Inter Milan and Olympique Marseille as well as appearing 12 times for the French national team.
“The Frenchman will be assisted at Forest by six new members of staff who will support the first team.”
