Northern Premier League fixture abandoned due to serious injury

A Northern Premier League fixture ended up being abandoned on Tuesday night due to a player picking up a serious injury in the first half.

Warrington Town took on Buxton in the Northern Premier League, however it finished with an ambulance having to arrive at the ground to assist a footballer who now have to face an operation.

With the Yellows one down at the time of the incident, the 38th minute, with midfielder Scott Brown down in the centre circle and hadn’t moved following the challenge.

One fan stated on social media that it looked like a challenge between two players and he just twisted. The referee gave Warrington a free kick but no blame was passed on anyone.

An ambulance has been called for Brown with early reports emerging that Brown picked up a suspected broken ankle. Ouch!

Minutes later, the decision came to not restart the game in respect of the player, and both squads returned to the changing rooms.

Nearly 30 minutes later, the player was still down on the ground, covered from the head down in jackets to keep him warm as staff waited for an ambulance to get to the stadium.

The referee had given a cut off time of 8:55pm, and it was long after then when medical attention arrived at Cantilever Park – at 9:34pm.

Scott Brown was then safely stretchered in to the ambulance, carried by the Yellows bench staff, including Paul Carden and Mark Beesley. Clubs and fans wished him all the best.

It has been confirmed that he has suffered a badly broken leg and at the very least, he is likely to miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

“I spoke with Browny this morning,” manager Paul Carden said.

“He’s had a tibia and fibula break and he’s having an operation today, which is good.

“It’s a clean break which is slightly better if there’s no complications but obviously, he’s going to be out for a long while.

“He’s a good lad and has a good way about him in that he’s very spirited.”

He will now have an operation on Wednesday, before recovering.

Players, staff, clubs and fans within the non league community gave their reaction as the Northern Premier League fixture was abandoned due to serious injury…

It comes just days after another non league fixture was abandoned due to a serious injury but this time minutes prior to the end after a player had suffered what was at the time a worrying injury.

Biggleswade FC took on and were beating Aylesbury United 3-2 in an entertaining Southern League – Central Division encounter on Saturday afternoon.

A deflected Max Hercules volley beat the stranded Biggleswade keeper to put the away side one up after just seven minutes.

Then on the 27th minute, Biggleswade skipper Tom Coles intercepted just over the halfway line, spotted the keeper off his line and brilliantly executes it.

Not long into the second half, it was the hosts’ turn to go in front, Alfie Williams with a super finish after a great cross from George Bailey.

In the 64th minute, the scoreline was once again level, fantastic build up play with Aylesbury’s Jamie Rudd involved throughout as he found the back of the net after a 1-2 with Ben Seaton.

In the 90th minute, Biggleswade came up late with a winner from a corner following a red card for Alan Fleming.

The referee then called for the whistle after 5 minutes of treatment for Aylesbury United’s Ty Deacon. A head to head collision with Luke Oswick after jumping for a header in their box.

It was initially reported that Deacon could have a potential spinal injury. However a few hours later, he had some good news from the hospital, that initial results showed no broken bones, ‘just’ tears and stretched muscles.

The referee finished the game early due to the injury. There was confusion,  but he confirmed afterwards that the game was abandoned.
