Non league clubs speak out on an incident as Taunton’s manager apologises for ‘losing the plot’ at a player at the Plymouth Parkway game.
A number of fans had captured the heated scenes on camera, with those inside the ground left stunned at what they were seeing unfold.
@PlymouthPFC tweeted: “Mad scenes at the break… Taunton manager launches onto the pitch and targets Bretty. Extraordinary scenes. Strange night. #ppfc”
Robin Dart (@therealdogbin) said: “Parkway 4 was allegedly kicked off the ball after 30ish seconds, Lino saw the incident and Taunton man sent off.
“Parkway 4 then allegedly did the same, just before halftime, in front of same Lino, Parkway 4 wasn’t sent off, manager lost his head. Chaos ensued.”

STATEMENT:
Taunton Town Football Club has today issued a statement following an incident during Tuesday night’s fixture at Plymouth Parkway that involved First-Team Manager Richard Luffman. Both the Manager and the Board of Directors have addressed the matter, reaffirming the club’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.
Statement from Manager Richard Luffman
To the Peacock family,
I just wanted to put on record my sincere apologies for Tuesday night. I didn’t act how I usually do, and I’m sorry. I’m big enough to admit when I’m wrong and I felt I needed to put on record that I feel I’ve let down our wonderful supporters, the board of directors, and everyone attached to our amazing football club. I’m passionate about this club and determined to win, but I’ve let you all down last night, no excuses it wasn’t acceptable.
I’ll see you all on Saturday.
Luffers.
Statement from the Board of Directors
Richard has accepted that his behaviour on Tuesday night does not meet the expectations we expect at Taunton Town Football Club and has apologised sincerely for his actions, this is the first time that Richard has been sent off or let his passion get the better of him since managing Taunton Town and we have therefore reminded him of the level of professionalism that we expect. Sport is a highly passionate profession, and we know that at times we all overstep the mark, or behave in a manner that we later regret, but that does not make it right or acceptable.
As a board we are very happy with the job that Richard is doing at the club, rebuilding a team from scratch with limited finances. We knew this was going to be a challenging phase for the club, however we are in agreement that the club is ahead, both on and off the pitch, of where we expected to be within the rebuilding project. Our attention now turns to Saturday’s fixture with Sholing where we know Richard and the team will be working incredibly hard to get back to winning ways.
Regards,
Taunton Town Board of Directors
Club Focus Moving Forward
The Board has confirmed that the matter has been addressed internally and considers the issue closed. The club’s attention now turns to its forthcoming Southern League Premier South fixture against Sholing this Saturday, as the team looks to return to winning form.
Taunton Town FC remains fully focused on its ongoing development both on and off the pitch as part of its wider rebuilding project under Luffman’s management.
This is how fans reacted as non league clubs speak out on the incident as the manager apologises for ‘losing the plot’ at a player…
@Love_non_league:
Hat-trick 😬
Lost game
Lost head
Lost hat
@BWhizzer: Any proper club would sack him for that.
@venny1976: Luffman again. See this name come up almost every week! What a wally. @refsupportuk
@Nickkg1979: Is that a Stone Island badge I spot on his coat? Turns any man into fighter 🤣
@BennyG10001: Oh my goodness. What an utter embarrassment! Being restrained by your own players because you’re behaving like a spoiled toddler! That’s peak shame. No way he will be respected in the dressing room after that! 🤦♂️
@dharris2077: What a absolute fucking melon! He be seething all day in work today In all! 😂😂😂 tosser
@wscevans: Lost the plot. Lost his cap. But getting the badge in there.
@leighbr89270765: I like him although when he did come to Totton he did look like an extra from Green Street….
@JasonSanthiago: Don’t apologise @Luffers85. Live and learn. Anyway, straight to the chase , did you get your hat back?
@Ryan01020304061: That Taunton Town statement is pathetic. ‘I didn’t act like I usually do’ nah the mask just slipped, you usually do it on the sly and this time it was in plain sight ‘working with limited finances’ must think people are thick, the old underdog tale doesn’t work anymore 🤥
@topper_sue8781: Glad this is all it’s come too. Time to go again on Saturday now. Can’t wait to see what cap Rich wears this week 🤩
@1Jc83: I personally thought it was spectacular viewing. Quality stuff.
@dorsetdom1905: Not the way I usually act 🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️ Behave …
@nonleaguesouths: A telling off from the board for Luffman but no more than that!
@thesameoldfew: “Limited budget” 😂😂
@LiamGreen___: In fucking stitches at the fella nicking the managers hat 😂😂😂😂😂
@morganzwynne: Proper get the badge in. Even better when the lad nicks his hat 🤣
@NashManBlues: Wow fancy a manager doing this running onto the pitch to confront a player at Half time . 🤯🤯
