Non league club’s minibus overturns on way back from match in collision with stolen cars

A non league club’s minibus overturns on their way back from Friday night’s match having been in a collision with two stolen cars.

The Roman Glass St George team confirmed hours after their Hellenic League Premier Division fixture away to Longlevens that the minibus which carried some First Team players and staff, had been involved in a road traffic collision.

This happened as they were on their way back to Bristol, with the club since giving an update on what happened.

CLUB STATEMENT:

“Following our victory in the #hellenicpremierleague away fixture at Longlevens on Friday night, the team bus was involved in an accident on the way back to Bristol.

“Two stolen vehicles were racing and driving erratically and despite our team bus driver taking evasive action, one of the stolen cars collided with our bus, causing it to overturn.

“Emergency services attended the scene and two players, Louis Ward and Shea Mannings, along with Assistant Manager Tony Beecham sustained injuries that require hospital admission and treatment.

“Other players and back room staff including Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist, Tom Goard, Charlie Saunders, Aidan Sanfelice, Christian Summerill and Finley Cummings, whilst badly shaken escaped relatively unscathed.

“The families of those taken to hospital have been notified and are now with their loved ones at Southmead.

“Everyone connected with Roman Glass St George FC are deeply upset and concerned for those involved, whilst thankful that none of the injuries are life threatening, or life changing,

“Our thoughts and best wishes are with all involved in this unfortunate and unnecessary incident.

“We wish everyone a speedy recovery and will offer support in any way possible to all members of the Glass Family.”

In a further update the morning after, the club tweeted: “Everyone involved with the club would love to say a massive thank you for all the support received after the shaking incident last night ❤️❤️❤️ #GLASSFAMILY #RGSG”

The uhlsport Hellenic League (@HellenicLeague) said: “Sending our best wishes to everyone at Roman Glass St. George involved in this horrible incident.”

The game itself saw Roman Glass pick up a 1-0 victory, thanks to a spot kick netted by Shea Mannings penalty in the 39th minute.

Longlevens thought they had got an equaliser through Jack Beardsell, who was then flagged for offside.

The result sees Roman Glass climb to 7th in the table with 19 points from 11 games, and Longlevens 14th with 14 points from 13 games.

Longlevens also sent a message of support to Roman Glass: “Would just like to wish All those involved a speedy recovery. Would also like to thank you guys for leaving the place spotless a good bunch of lads. Great game and GK deserved MOM.”
