Non league club were ‘offered Mesut Ozil on loan’

One particular non league club were ‘offered Mesut Ozil on loan’ with the player currently an outcast at Arsenal right now.

Marine of the Northern Premier League Division One North West have jokingly claimed they rejected the chance to sign him to help beat the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham.

The Merseyside club gave a good go at trying to cause the greatest upset in FA Cup history when they faced Jose Mourinho’s side at Rossett Park on Sunday.

With the score a 0-0 for the first quarter of the first half, Marine winger Neil Kengni struck the crossbar with an impressing shot from around 35 yards out.

That was as close as they got to scoring however and soon the goals came in for Spurs as they eventually stormed to a 5-0 victory.

Before the game, Marine, who are in the eighth tier of English football, took to troll 161 places above Tottenham.

The Mariners assured supporters they they didn’t need help on the pitch after joking that they rejected Ozil’s services.

They tweeted: “TEAM NEWS. On Friday @Arsenal offered us Ozil on loan to help us beat @SpursOfficial.

“I’m sorry our bench is already sorted unfortunately.”

The post had fans in stitches with one replying: “Just like that, Marine became a second club to millions of Spurs fans.”

Another said: “Let me be clear. This tweet alone has caused me to buy a ticket for tonight. Top work Marine admin.”

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has hit back at Mesut Ozil’s dig that he would rather retire than play for Spurs – by saying he would not want him anyway.

Arsenal’s out-of-favour German couldn’t resist having a pop at their North London rivals during a Twitter Q&A this week.

Ozil has been sidelined for a numerous amount of months now and was not included by Mikel Arteta in his team’s Premier League or Europa League squads.

The 32-year-old is still under contract until June and earns a total of £350,000-a-week at the Emirates, with the club desperate to get him off the books.

Spurs boss Mourinho replied back: “Who told him Tottenham are interested in signing him?”

Interestingly, Jose has previously worked with Ozil at Real Madrid when they were both at the Spanish giants between 2010-13 but clearly there is no love lost between them.

It says it all that Arsenal are sitting in 11th place in the Premier League table but their neighbours are flying high in fourth, and the war of words is not likely to be won by the German playmaker.

Ozil could be about to leave Arsenal in January and Arteta has admitted the midfielder will be allowed to depart if a reasonable offer comes in.

He recently reflected on his time at the club, in the same Twitter question and answer, writing: ‘There have been many ups and downs so far, but all in all I’ve never regretted my decision to join Arsenal.

‘And, to be honest, the last couple of games before the coronavirus break in February and March 2020 made really a lot (of) fun. But after the break things unfortunately changed.’

Local media has reported that he has held talks with Turkish club Fenerbahce and along with Major League Soccer side DC United.

‘Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in the country,’ he recently said. Every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany. And mine was Fenerbahce.

‘There are two countries I want to play football in before I retire: Turkey and USA. If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahce.’
