Non league club Oxhey Jets have been left furious with police called as fly-tippers break in and dump ’10’ truckloads’ onto the ground.

The Combined Counties League Division One outfit have been hit by fly-tippers again, with the groundskeeper arriving at Oxhey Jets’ pitches in Altham Way, South Oxhey, to find the gate was already open at around 7am on the 7th of January to discover the mess.

Locks were cut so that the culprits could gain access to the site. They came again overnight to dump another load, much to the dismay of the club.

The club was forced to call off their Hertfordshire FC Charity Shield home fixture on Tuesday night due to the fly-tip blocking access to the ground, plus they had a waterlogged pitch.

We know just how tough it can be to operate at this level of football these days, but it’s been made even tougher when idiots like this make it so much tougher for them.

Clearing the site of mounds of fences, industrial rubbish, and household items will have to be dealt with over the coming days.

Deputy council leader Sarah Nelmes said, per Watford Observer: “Our environmental enforcement officers are investigating, and we are optimistic that we may be able to determine the source of some of the waste.

“We are now working on removing this vast amount of what has been fly-tipped, which may take a number of days to complete.

“I would urge residents never to tamper with evidence at the scene of fly-tipping like this. If you ever witness fly-tipping taking place, report it to the police on 999.

“If you have any information in connection with this incident, please get in touch with the 24-hour hotline on 0800 807 060.”

According to Oxhey Jets founder and general manager John Elliott, as well as the environmental health officers, the rubbish dumped had been “one of the biggest they’ve ever seen”. Smaller amounts of fly-tipping on this land have been seen in recent years.

“I’m absolutely pig-sick,” he said. “It wears you down, you try all these things – it’s all voluntary – and its one thing after another.

“It’s the inconvenience as well as all the cost.

“Why do these people do this? Well, clearly, they are making a lot of money out of clearing a site somewhere.

“They are saying the estimate is 10 loads.”
