Non league club ask for donations after part of ground catches on fire

A non league club based in Nottinghamshire ask for donations after part of their ground catches on fire on Friday evening.

Kimberley Miners Welfare of the United Counties League Division One have set up a fundraising page following the devastating events that took place.

As of Sunday morning, £990 has been sent in from 36 donors, however the club have set a target of £5,000 to help them with the items caught up in the fire.

Neil Johnson said on the club’s fire fund web page: “Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club where hit by a fire on Friday 6th August which resulted in all the clubs pitch equipment being destroyed. The club is ran purely by volunteers and the cost of replacing lost equipment will cost the club thousands. Any help given by the football or local community would be greatly appreciated.”

Over on their Twitter account, a post read: “Luckily none of the clubs main building where damaged last night however the storage unit that held all the ground equipment was destroyed. If any club has a ride on mower we could borrow for a while please get in touch.”

Kimberley’s Reserves were in action the following day of the incident as they welcomed Fernwood Foxes in a 3pm KO, with that encounter ended a goalless draw. The area of where the fire was had to be sectioned off as it was right next to the stand.

Meanwhile, the first team played their opening league fixture away from home, falling to a 2-1 defeat at Aylestone Park.

Kimberley said a massive thanks to their good friends Ilkeston Town for giving a helping hand by lending a mower.
