‘No one knows what to do’ – Jamal Lowe gives honest update on Sheffield Wednesday crisis

‘No one knows what to do’ – Jamal Lowe gives an honest update on the Sheffield Wednesday crisis, speaking live on Sky Sports News.

The Championship outfit are facing significant uncertainty with players and staff still unpaid, and only learning about developments simultaneously with fans, often through Twitter.

The situation has left everyone at the club unsure. Despite the season opener next week, the team is physically prepared, but the possibility of not playing the first game remains up for discussion should it could to it.

Player departures have further destabilised the squad, with no resentment at those departing due to the current circumstances they face, from not being paid, to the takeover saga and all that is going on behind the scenes.

The appointment of a familiar assistant as the new manager offers some continuity, which Lowe sees as a positive amid the turmoil.

The team is striving to stay optimistic despite the challenges.

Jamal Lowe: “I don’t know. There’s a lot of uncertainty really, just like the fans and just like everyone just following the story, we kind of find out at the same time. So if it’s on Twitter, that’s when we find out sometimes.

“But no one’s experienced this before, so no one really knows what to do, when to expect stuff. So that’s all unknown territory for everyone.

“I like to say, staff… the players aren’t getting it but a lot of the staff that work here every day or work at the stadium every day aren’t getting paid either so like it’s tough for everyone, tough for us but for them like we more think about them in harder times like this where it’s like you only find out the day before payday whether you’re getting paid or not and it’s not enough time to organise whatever you need to organise if you’ve got stuff coming out.

“No one knows, everyone’s got a different story, do know what mean? So it is tough, it is tough.”

Interviewer: “The season starts in just over a week. How ready are you as players? There’s even speculation, you know, that you may not play in that first game. Have you talked about it?”

Jamal: “We haven’t spoken that far ahead yet, but everyone’s fit. We have been working hard because the season doesn’t stop for anyone. It’s not going to stop for us.

“They’re not going to feel sorry for us and say, why don’t we just push our games a couple of weeks back?

“So everyone’s working as much as they can to be fit but what happens from there, I don’t know.”

Interviewer: “And you’ve had players leaving over the summer, the squad’s getting smaller. It just must be so concerning as players that are still here to see all that happening.”

Jamal: Yeah, yeah, as you can imagine, people have left. It’s an unstable situation at the minute, so… no one holds any bad feelings towards anyone who’s left, do you know what I mean?

“Because everyone completely understands, it’s a crazy time. I don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, you know what I mean? We’ll just have to see what’s going off.”

Interviewer: “A new manager announced yesterday, I know you know him anyway because he was here as assistant but it’s just such a strange scenario isn’t it?”

Jamal: “Yeah that’s probably the smoothest bit about the whole thing because obviously we knew him already if it was a complete new individual it a lot not more complicated, but he was already here already, so that makes life a little bit easier.

“Got the same similar ideologies about how we want to play, so that’s not an issue. That’s probably the most positive thing out of the situation, is that there’s not too much change with that. But we will see, man. We will see. Have you got to stay positive that things will… If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. So we have to laugh.”
