Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles ‘throws punch’ after being attacked by gang in city centre

Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles ‘throws a punch’ after being attacked by a gang in the city centre on Sunday the 20th of August.

Police are looking into the brawl which involved the Newcastle captain in which it is claimed a gang of men ‘threatened to shoot’ the player and his 19 year old brother.

Officers from Northumbria Police were called to the scene after the clash outside The Mile Castle pub on Westgate Road in Newcastle during the early hours.

Lascelles had arrived back on Tyneside after his side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Premier League holders Man City and went on a night out with his younger brother and a pal as the team had been given two days off by Eddie Howe.

They had just left Chinawhite club when it’s claimed that a man elbowed Lascelles’ 19-year-old brother in the throat in an ‘unproved attack’ with one onlooker saying Lascelles stepped in and pushed the man away.

Reports also state that a bottle of vodka was then thrown towards Lascelles and missed his head narrowly, with a group of ‘six to eight’ men allegedly then attacking the the player and he was ‘punched from all angles’.

He managed to throw one of the men to the floor, but his brother had been ‘punched in the face and was bleeding’. Their friend, meanwhile, also got beaten up, ‘kicked in the head and knocked unconscious’. It was during the fight that the group are alleged to have said they were going to ‘shoot’ Lascelles.

In a video, Lascelles can bee seen leaning over one of the men in the road and appears to try and disffuse the situation, before being blindsided and punched in the face, so retaliates by throwing a punch in the direction of the same man.

Sources say the player had been was acting in self-defence throughout the brawl and tried to protect his teenage brother. The ggroup of men legged it just as emergency services arrived and Lascelles’ friend was taken to hospital.

Onlookers add they thought he was dead given he was unconscious for 15 minutes while paramedics worked on him. Police have since held a discussion with the alleged victim, although Mail Sport write that no arrests have been made.

Newcastle are aware of the incident and have seen the video and say the matter will be dealt with internally.

A source told The Times: “There was blood coming out of his brother’s mouth.

“One of Lascelles’ group was on the ground and then got kicked in the face and was knocked out cold… for more than ten minutes.

“He was being resuscitated when the police arrived.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 4am on Sunday, August 20, we received a report of disorder involving a number of people on Westgate Road, in Newcastle city centre.

“Officers attended however it is believed that those involved had already left the scene before they arrived.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should use the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or call 101, quoting NP-20230820-0227.”

Twitter users reacted as Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles ‘throws a punch’ after being attacked by a gang in the city centre…

@markyj84: This is disgraceful! This should be looked into, if Lascelles is at fault then he should have criminal charges against him and have a ban from football. There are so many young kids on social media seeing this who look up to him. Bad example of being a professional. @talkSPORT

@Wellsie_: Did he end up spending a night in Lascelles?

@CarlOxley: It’s a shame we live in a society where grown men have to act like children because they can’t handle beer. And the coward that punches Lascelles when he’s bent over trying to help lad up and then when Lascelles comes towards him he runs like a bitch. 🤣🤣🤣

@gemmalsomers: I’d be very surprised if Lascelles is entirely innocent in this… He was banned from every pub in Derby, was in Court for Assault/ABH. He tried to fight Ritchie twice, went for Hayden & Diame, lost it with Rafa & Dubravka too. He has a lot of form, (and wears Stone Island). 🤦🏻‍♀️😅

@CalMck10: Why do we always think footballers should let anything in public go. Group of men threatened to shoot him, attacked his brother and then cheap shot him you aint gonna be like no worries.

@CraigLa46157461: Don’t give a shit who’s involved here but if you go to kick someone in the head whilst they’re on the floor, you are nothing more than a disgusting thug!! Oh, a bellend also

@ToonMouthTyne: My Captain…..©

@Robbyjobby1: Fuck imagine big Joe was there 😂

@Blondewyn1: Hope they catch the barstewards n jamaal & his brother are ok 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍

@Karl_NUFC22: Well done Jamaal, stood up to the wannabe gangsters and saved his bro and friend from getting a worse beating
