Newcastle United rattle fans after revealing their new green away kit for 2023/24 and reportedly plan to host a Saudi Arabia friendly.
The Magpies are in talks to welcome the national side later this year in what is a new way of the growing ties between the club and the kingdom.
Mark Douglas of inews reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who owns 80 per cent of the Premier League club, are strengthening links with the country by travelling for several mid-season training camps and also clinched a record shirt sponsorship deal with the PIF-owned entertainment company Sela.
Now Newcastle are expected to host a fixture on the 12th of September which will see Saudi Arabia take on Mexico at St James’ Park, as talks with both federations continue.
The Football Association need to also give the go ahead for the game to be played but there should be no issue as many others international teams regularly play in England.
Newcastle named Sela as their main shirt sponsor early June and the club’s chief commercial officer Peter Silverstone confirmed their aim is to be the best-supported Premier League side in Saudi Arabia .
Newcastle have also unveiled a green change strip for the new season…
Here to compete. 🟢#NUFC‘s 2023/24 away kit is now available to purchase both in-store and online!

The kit is made by sportswear brand Castore and is described to be a “golf green”, a fair bit different to last season’s white and green strip. And that really was popular in Saudi Arabia, with their national teams currently ranked 54th in the world and also surprised at the Qatar World Cup when they beat Argentina.
While they look hopeful to host the 2030 World Cup, a huge amount of money has been pumped into the Saudi Pro League, with a growing list of well known faces leaving top clubs in European football in order to sign for clubs in Saudi Arabia.
