Newcastle owners want to make £400,000-a-week star their first signing

Newcastle and their Saudi owners want to make a £400,000-a-week star their first big signing and it’s got a lot of people talking.

The Magpies are reportedly looking at Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey as their first marquee signing at the club following their £305million takeover.

The consortium – who we all know are backed by their £320bn Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund – completed their takeover from Mike Ashley on Thursday.

Newcastle owners want to make £400,000-a-week star their first signing

This came after the Premier League received “legally binding assurances” that the Saudi state would not control the club.

The PIF – which is seen as separate to the state – will provide 80 per-cent of the funds, ending Ashley’s 14-year spell as owner to which has causes jubilant scenes outside St James’ Park.

The takeover had initially been abandoned in 2020 when the group was unable to prove that they were separate to the Saudi state, and a recent piracy dispute between Saudi Arabia along with its Premier League broadcaster beIN Sports also put the deal on hold until it was settled earlier this week.

Due to the huge wealth of their new owners, Newcastle are considered to be the richest club in world football, with a host of big-name players already linked with January moves to the North East outfit.

The club’s ambitious owners have already expressed their desire to win the Premier League and to do just that they will need to change things up drastically, new staff and new signings.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Ramsey is considering a return the Premier League, and Newcastle are one potential option while Crystal Palace and Everton are also reportedly keen on him.

The same reports says that Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini is keen on the idea of getting rid of Ramsey and his hefty £400,000-a-week wages.

Ramsey recently told the press recently: “The training philosophy and methods are different in my club from here with Wales.

“There are a lot of people here who have a number of years of managing me so they know how to get the best out of me.

“And how to help me to play a lot of games in a row, like I showed at Euro 2020 this year.

“I’m capable of doing that and producing good performances… Of course I’d like myself to be playing more. It’s been frustrating.”

Former Aston Villa captain Gabriel Agbonlahor recently told talkSPORT that he thinks Newcastle should sign Ramsey, while also mentioning Philippe Coutinho as a potential option.

“I’d go and get Ramsey or someone like that,” he told talkSPORT.

“He’s still a good player and it isn’t working for him at Juventus at the moment.

“I’d target those kind of players where you don’t have to pay them silly money.

“I’d take Coutinho, too, because we were talking about the Man City takeover and they had Robinho come in.

“Coutinho’s not really playing his football properly at Barcelona, and Barcelona will take anything – they still owe Liverpool for him, don’t they?”

With reports saying how Newcastle owners want to make £400,000-a-week star their first signing, fans gave their reaction…

@MarkHor85004053: Its simple, they need to Gradually improve the team, they will not attract the likes of Mbappe or Van Djik, Tarkowski & Lingard are very good shouts, both improve the starting 11 and then gradually improve each posistion every year and it will come together naturally

@SadSportsFan98: Coutinho, Ramsey, Nathan Ake, Jesse Lingard, and Dean Henderson would be a perfect realistic window for Newcastle imo. Maybe even add Van De Beek in January. Gotta build the foundation before you go after world class players in the future

@jbradmayo68: Hope they like playing at Stoke on a wet Tuesday night.

@andythebutts: Why?! Please explain?! Both failing at present clubs, both aging, injury prone,I don’t get it?!!

@mcollins_1990: Yer absolutely the two I keep saying…. coutinho Ramsey next to nothing fee wise just a big wage.. and then tarkowski from Burnley.. and another striker.. need a new spine then maxi and coutinho on wings cutting in

@gazzman12683: Why is everyone recommending Has Beens for Newcastle?

@JonDT96: Could easily see Ramsey as Newcastle United’s first signing under the new ownership

@Barmy2Toon: Ramsey Lingaard be two decent singings straight away

@NUFCIrving1010: See some big names being mentioned such as Ramsey, Marcelo, etc. Yes they’re very good players. However, my worry would be that they’d see us as a big final payday, with a lack of hunger. It’s all about being smart financially and recruiting effectively.

@Chris261182: So @NUFC #nufc fans, bearing in mind we are 19th, no European football and definitely going to change manager. Who is the realistic first signing going to be? Aaron Ramsey for me, not having a good time in Italy and needs to rejuvenate himself.

@aidan_ijc: @aaronramsey you coming tyneside fella?

@graemedoyle3: Hes played just shy of 50 games for Juventus and people saying not a big name signing….🤣 Great player and very experienced. Technically up with the best of them.

@Jaimehop32: Honestly Aaron Ramsey is so good, please sign him @NUFC #Ramsey #NUFC

@modforit8: If #NUFC are serious about becoming contenders their first signing should be Aaron Ramsey
