Newcastle fan accuses ex-Sunderland player Don Goodman of ‘fixing’ Carabao Cup draw

A Newcastle fan accuses ex-Sunderland player Don Goodman of ‘fixing’ the Carabao Cup draw made after the Magpies’ win over Man City.

Isak hit the winner for last season’s Carabao Cup finalists after Pep Guardiola’s side had dominated the first half but Magpies stepped up a level after the break to book their place in the Fourth Round.

After the game, Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders hosted the draw alongside Neil Lennon and Don Goodman, however, a fair few users on Twitter have expressed a concern on Goodman.

‘GEORDIE MAG’ uploaded footage of the draw, saying: “What we have here ladies and gents is none other than ex-Sunderland player Don Goodman having a good look for that number 16.”

Many have come in to defend Goodman, saying he couldn’t have picked out Manchester United deliberately after the balls had been blocked by a plastic cover.

It also comes after Newcastle fans raised the point of an error made in the Carabao Cup Third Round draw, something the EFL soon confirmed.

A spokesperson has said that the ‘small’ blunder doesn’t throw the integrity of the draw into question and remain satisfied with all ties that came out.

It saw Newcastle drawn against Manchester City and Norwich face Fulham respectively next month

But as per an EFL spokesperson to Express Sport, they acknowledge that Newcastle and Norwich were in fact assigned the incorrect balls.

They said: “The numbers for the Round Three draw of the Carabao Cup were allocated and communicated in advance of the draw taking place on Wednesday evening and were drawn in-line with the usual strict protocols and conditions.

“The League accepts that the list published was not in alphabetical order, however, under Cup rules, the draw does not require for numbers to be allocated on that basis as is demonstrated by those teams who progressed on Wednesday night.

“As a result, the EFL views the draw as completely valid with no impact to competition integrity.”

Newcastle fans spotted that they were the wrong ball number during the draw after being handed number 20.

If Newcastle were given their correct number in the draw (19), they would have drawn Fulham away, while Norwich should have got Man City.

As can be seen below, draw numbers were done in alphabetically, with the only mistake being Norwich and Newcastle in the wrong order.

As mentioned, a Newcastle fan accuses ex-Sunderland player Don Goodman of ‘fixing’ the Carabao Cup Fourth Round draw, others however hit back in defence of Goodman…

@James_Ashton22: Don’t be ridiculous. He looked away as he was still mixing them around. Sounds desperate.

@Danfudge: Don Goodman has x-Ray vision according to the Geordies, pass it on

@NUFCMurph: Delete this man. Making us look like Liverpool, begging the world to be against us. We’re better than this.

@Daniel842476395: Don Goodman cheating on the draw again what’s going to happen then get it put out there guys. I want to play Man U but fairly drawn looking in the pot then drawing is bullshit sorry

@DeanoCummings85: theyre claiming Don Goodman rigged the cup draw now

@white_vision: Who cares? Man U easy

@toon_mentalist: We drew Man City coz the EFL couldn’t get the alphabet right so an ex mackem & a bloke who head butted shearer’s boot was never gonna end well

@ellington09: Just like in round 3 when we got given the wrong ball number 😂

@johns3boys: Looks away after he puts 16 into his hand.. worse acting ever 😂😂

@SJ_LFC1: Claiming the lads got x ray vision. Fuck me that’s clutching 😂😂😂

@LewisEvz: Bit of a stretch that 😂

@AdamClifford8: I love how he finds the ball and then pretends to not look!

@ronnieallan171: Blatant that absolutely shocking 😮

@TomFairbairn789: Can’t be the only one who watched Don Goodman actively looking into the bowl when he picked our number out there? #NUFC

@TerryBywater07: 😅😅😅😅😅😅 I mean he looks away , got some skills if he can pick no 16 like that

@neilTheMagpie: Mackem #Dongoodman clearly searching for the #NUFC ball before looking away.

@lc_curry: Not happy with the draw. Watch it back, Don’dorty mackem’Goodman, see’s the 16, goes for it and wiggles his hand about. Proper fix for telly. Doesn’t matter like…. any Manchester club. All cockneys anyway

@Ted246_: Hells bollocks man. I’ve come to the conclusion that some of these faceless accounts have genuinely lost the plot. Up there with Burnsie (👽) level this. #nufc

@NUFCLC: He physically can’t see the ball. There’s a green plastic cover over the top. They wouldn’t just let someone look in the bowl live on tele and choose a number. Why have our fans got a new victim complex? Seen one bloke say “they don’t want mags in London again.” Who? Why? #NUFC

@True1892: I’m literally not arsed about playing Man Utd, but the fact this degenerate is leaning back to see through the part of the bowl he’s not supposed to, clearly knows what number we are and picks it, then pretends to look away? Embarrassing #NUFC

@AVFCCharlie: There’s literally a flap they put their hand in to prevent them seeing the numbers, and he also looks away whilst still mixing the balls. Stop clutching at straws. You can still beat United anyways 🤣

@motorcity2mo: #NUFC fans LOVE their domestic cup draw conspiracies 😂😂😂 I personally love drawing ManU. Wish it was at home to be sure but we tend to lay off a bit against non top tier clubs in cup ties so I say bring it on. Especially with how shambolic things are at ManU right now

@AndyMk_83: 😂😂 theyve well and truly lost the plot this lot.

@ConnorMoorcroft: He literally looks away hahahahahahaha

@seanoregan05: Seen some takes but this is wild 😂
