New Workington stadium plans rejected by council – club’s future at risk if current home is unsafe

Following the news that Workington’s new stadium plans have been rejected by the Allerdale Council, meaning the club’s future is at risk if their current home is deemed unsafe, social media users have taken to gave their reaction, some pleased, others not so…

@leydon_john: How sad!! A great opportunity to raise the profile of Workington on the National Stage appears to be fading!??! Workington AFC are my second team (I live in Birmingham), this is a great chance to move both clubs forward, but now they may have to struggle to survive!??! Madness!!!

@InTheShires: Absolutely shocking. This is a no brainer. Stadium needs to be built to revitalise the sporting facilities to attract the next generation.

@AndrewWalker09: Absolute clowns allerdale council joke of a decision

@sioneone1: brilliant, well done to the backwards thinking imbecile councillors in holding back the town, that’s the death of both semi pro sports teams and no decent sporting facilities for the areas kids. Suppose we’ll still have some nice hanging baskets though..

@mikecllr65: As a West cumbrian sports fan I am shocked that the new @allerdale executive have cancelled the planned new stadium in Workington unable to see the bigger picture means west Cumbria missing out @RLWC2021 @WorkingtonTown @WorkingtonAFC
