New odds-on favourite for Leicester job as list emerges with potential contenders

There is a new odds-on favourite for the Leicester City job as a list emerges with potential contenders as talks begin this week.

Mail Online report that the Foxes are hoping to announce their new manager in the next few days, with the new Championship campaign starting less than two months from now.

Since the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, on the 2nd of April, the club are without a permanent manager, with interim boss Dean Smith unable to keep their team in top flight.

Smith has since met with the club’s chiefs while Scott Parker, who won promotion with Fulham and Bournemouth and Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca also being considered.

Another name being mentioned is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with there said to be ‘some support’ for the Norwegian who has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in November 2021.

His spell in charge of the Red Devils started in December 2018 and lasted 168 games, 91 of which he won.

That followed two stints in charge of Molde and one with Cardiff City in 2014 which saw the Welsh side relegated to the Championship.

Another rumoured candidate is Carl Hoefkens, according to RTBF, who state Leicester are ‘vest interested in’ 44-year-old.

He was last in charge of Club Brugge, leaving them last December.

The same report adds that the Belgian ‘already’ visited the Foxes’ facilities in May, and comes a day after journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that both Leicester and Swansea City have ‘concretely approached’ Hoefkens. The manager is expected to ‘answer on his future in the next few weeks’, but of curse that needs to come sooner rather than later.

Ex-Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, who had also been on the list, has now begun talks with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq.

James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and eight other players were out of contract by the end of the last season and are expected to leave.

The first candidate to replace Rodgers in Leicester had been Graham Potter, with the club contacting him to try and tempt him in. However, the former Brighton manager said he would take a short break after being fired by Chelsea before trying to secure a Premier League job again.

This is what fans are saying as a new odds-on favourite is revealed for the Leicester job as a list emerges with potential contenders…

@Chi_Lcfc: Parker is proven for promotion. Solid choice. But when back in the Prem, will he fight management over a lack of transfers? Hopefully he’s learned his lesson not to fight (Bournemouth). And hopefully #LCFC has learned what a lack of transfers can do to a club (Championship).

@LCFC_LCFC:
Want – Adi Hutter/Vierra
Wouldnt mind – Maresca/Solskjaer
Dont’ want – Parker/marsch #LCFC

@hargraa: @lcfc when are you going to wake up and start managing the club in a proper way you’ve had 2 months knowing you needed to appoint a full time manager and 12 months+ that we would need a complete squad rebuild 🤷‍♂️🙈 #lcfc Sort it out 🤬

@c_r_5: Maresca’s only management job went disastrously at Palma. It could go differently here, but it’s certainly a gamble

@SweeneySean_:
My moneys on Maresca
This weekend
#LCFC 🦊

@Jakebroadwell2: There’s literally less than 2 months before the season starts… Leicester has no manager yet.. players leaving… No players coming in… Something needs to happen #LCFC @LCFC

@burtmcneill: Get Enzo in. He’ll sort things, no more messing about 👍🏻

@MikeLUHG2: The last time a championship team employed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he ended up almost putting them in league one. Still hilarious that he spent 3 years managing Manchester United and had millions of people thinking it was a good idea. Top tier conman. Hope this helps

@utdHarryy: If Leicester appoint Ole, they will be relegated to league 1

@1uca86: We’ve not got a clue have we. We literally do not know which way to turn 😭

@meredithlcfc: Hope we take the gamble on Enzo 🦊

@bolly1307: Thats a list of terrible names

@LCFCshitposting:
🔹 2.5 wks (16 days) since the end of the Premier League season
🔹 10 wks (72 days) since our last permanent manager was sacked
Leicester City still don’t know who their manager is or what players they need to support them
Squad rebuild hasn’t even started. Only 7.5wks to go..
