Tottenham deny Richard Key’s new stadium name claims

Tottenham Hotspur have denied that their new stadium, which they’re set to move into next month, will be called Nike Stadium.

The news came on beIN SPORTS’s Keys and Gray show but the club said to Sportsmail that that information is in fact not correct.

The stadium is occasionally referred to as New White Hart Lane by fans and some in the media and many intend to keep calling it that.

The video has since been deleted after it got thousands of views and retweets.

It was hard to tell but we thought once Andy Gray hears the name of the new stadium, he wasn’t happy.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is hoping that they will be able to play the home leg of their Champions League quarter final tie at their new stadium.

He spoke to media media following his side’s 1-0 victory at Borussia Dortmund this week which saw the only goal of the game from Harry Kane seal a place in the last eight (for their first time since 2011) and a comfortable 4-0 aggregate score over the Bundesliga leaders.

Spurs have been playing their home games at Wembley Stadium since 2017, but after countless announcements of delays due to construction and safety, it looks as though the new ground might finally be ready in time for their Premier League clash against strugglers Brighton & Hove Albion on the 7th of April or in the Champions League quarter-finals.

After the win at Dortmund, Pochettino said: “I expect to play in the new stadium.

“We were talking with (chairman) Daniel Levy on Monday and yes, my wish is to play in the new stadium.

“Before the game, we were sitting listening to the song of the Champions League and we were thinking it would be amazing to be standing in the new stadium, listening to the song.

“Now we are in the quarter-finals, we hope we can finish and we can listen to the song.”

The draw for the Champions League quarter-finals will take place next week on Friday the 15th of March.
