Former England player set to be confirmed as manager of Southend

Southend United are said to be advanced ‘positive’ talks with Sol Campbell to become their new first team manager.

He has been out of job since he resigned from being manager at Macclesfield Town in August, months after miraculously saving them from League Two relegation.

Campbell is expected to name former Manchester United star Andy Cole as striker coach and ex-Ipswich Town defender Hermann Hreidarsson as his assistant manager.

Southend have been looking for a new manager since Kevin Bond resigned in September.

Gary Waddock has been caretaker and in the eight games he’s been in charge of, he’s only won once, drew twice and lost five.

The Shrimpers had revealed last week that a deal to bring in Henrik Larsson broke down with Tommy Johnson choosing not to be his assistant.

Southend currently sit second from bottom of League One after picking up just five points from 13 games.

After finding out that Sol Campbell is set to be appointed at Southend, fans took to give their reaction with the majority seeing it as a good news – see what they had to say by clicking on the next page.
