New footage surfaces of Norwich and Ipswich fans clashing as police make 11 arrests

New footage surfaces of Norwich and Ipswich fans clashing as police make a total of 11 arrests on the day of the East Anglian derby.

The trouble took place before the game, with police officers on horses swooped in to try and restore order, while certain individuals were dealt with.

Eastern Daily Press report that the arrests came before, during and after Norwich’s 1-0 win, for a range of offences, including criminal damage, throwing an object, antisocial behaviour and letting off a smoke device, and all those arrested remain in police custody.

Following the Championship fixture at Carrow Road, cordons were placed around the stadium with a number of roads being closed so that fans could make their way home safely.

Match-day policing commander, Superintendent Kris Barnard said: “I’d like to thank everybody at Carrow Road this afternoon.

“We know this match means a great deal to both sets of fans who want to show their support and get behind their team, and I’m pleased that they did that with good spirit and humour.

“We always said our policing approach would be friendly and fair and our focus was on those people whose behaviour spoilt the enjoyment or safety of others.

“I want to thank everybody for their understanding and cooperation in helping us to ensure this match passed off safely.”

There was a strong police presence in the city before and after the game.

Senior commanders said it had taken months of planning and involved officers from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and the British Transport Police, as well Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service, the East of England Ambulance Service, both football clubs and Norfolk County Council.

Four men are due to make a court appearance after being arrested, including Oliver Liddle, 26, of Aberdare Court in Norwich, who was charged with possession of a pyrotechnic and has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on May 15.

Nathan Moore, 33, of Fen Way in Hoveton, was also charged with possession of a pyrotechnic and has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on May 14.

Zac Lapworth, 25, of The Green in Beyton, Bury St Edmunds, was charged with throwing a missile in a football ground. He has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on June 13.

Tim Brown, 65, of Vane Court in Witham, Essex, was charged with obstructing a police officer and being drunk and disorderly. He has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on May 15.

Another four people were also arrested on suspicion of crimes including drug possession, obstructing a police officer and causing harassment with the police investigation continuing.
