New footage shows an ’embarrassing’ referee decision which was made during the St Johnstone vs Celtic Scottish premiership game at the weekend.
A reckless tackle by Saints’ Liam Gordon was made on the Hoops’ Patryk Klimala in the closing stages of the encounter with minutes remaining.
Immediately after the challenge, Klimala bounced back and went on to get Celtic’s second of the game, shortly after Leigh Griffiths broke the deadlock.
Fans were left angry however that Gordon escaped a red card for how he took Klimala down. He did get a yellow card however.
Blogger, Celts Are Here, wrote about it: “Firstly, we want to applaud Patryk Klimala for his goal on Sunday not only was it a terrific finish, but it was also a goal scored after a crunching tackle which under the Celtic unique angle footage, looks even worse!
“Nick Walsh [referee] had a peculiar performance in Perth on Sunday, but the decision not to send off Liam Gordon for the challenge, regardless of the outcome, was so poor and speaks to a bigger issue.
“Jeremie Frimpong was constantly fouled yesterday wth St Johnstone players bringing him down whenever possible. David Turnbull was booked during the game quite easily, however, when Murray Davidson made a similar challenge, Walsh let him off with a warning and he had already picked up many different fouls over the pitch.
“The lack of protection or punishment for some shocking challenges is going to result in some big injuries for the Hoops over the piece.”
Celtic have uploaded unique ‘angle footage’ of their match highlights, and included is the Hoops’ second goal which showed the tackle on Klimala, had he not got back up, would it have been a red instead of a yellow?

What about Klimala getting up from a dreadful challenge and finishing like that.
— Jimbo (@Jimkingofkings) October 4, 2020
Should have been a red card for that challenge on Klimala Btw.

He doesn't play as much as he'd like, he never complains, he just gets his head down & works his arse off to do his best for the team ?
A well deserved & incredible finish today ??pic.twitter.com/zswhhs4amf

Not many would have got straight back up after being floored and even fewer would have scored.
Like Paddy Bhoy so far.

— Kevin68 (@Kevin6881265663) October 4, 2020
The finish probably saved the red card... assuming there was a fair referee on the pitch, of course.

Spot on mate, some resilience to get up from a red card challenge and stick it away. Shocking tackle none the less
— Pedro (@Pedro29382540) October 4, 2020
Why wasn’t it a red card after the goal
— CelticBhoy67 (@cfcdmg1888) October 4, 2020
Shocker of a tackle
— Chris Devlin (@cdevlin7) October 4, 2020
Love that the ref had no intention of giving a foul for that tackle on Klimala and only made the "playing advantage" signal as the ball hit the net.

Klimala has sussed Scottish referees and knew just to get up there before he got booked for diving.
— CeltsAreHere (@HereCelts) October 4, 2020
Well. We won, which is the main thing. Pretty poor performance overall, but a couple of good goals to win it at the death. Klimala did brilliantly for his, given the tackle on him. Ref was at it all game. Absolutely blatant.
