New footage emerges with Brighton players spat at by Crystal Palace fans

New footage emerges with Brighton players disgustingly spat at by Crystal Palace fans following Monday night’s Premier League clash.

The Seagulls stars were left furious as they walked off the pitch, with manager Graham Potter watching on after the dramatic draw at Selhurst Park.

Tensions were running high between the two sets of players and fans at the end of the encounter, after Neal Maupay scored a 95th-minute equaliser for Brighton in a match that saw Palace controlling for long periods.

The hostile atmosphere escalated as the away team went past a section of home fans on their way to the dressing room with some Brighton players allegedly spat at, while coins and drinks are understood to have been thrown their way.

Footage that emerged online appears to show a number of Brighton players being rushed to their changing room as words are exchanged with home supporters.

The post-match drama may lead to repercussions for any supporters identified and potentially for Palace, if the incidents are reported to either the police or football’s authorities and wrongdoing is proved. A match delegate from the Premier League is understood to have been in the vicinity and will report anything they saw or was captured on camera.

Asked about his side getting back to their dressing room, Brighton boss Graham Potter said: ‘That’s how it is here.

‘With the goal going in at that time, there are emotions, passion which you would expect. There wasn’t a massive amount of security there. But it’s a little bit intimidating.’

The Football Association are already looking into matters on the pitch following a heated, mass confrontation between players at full time.

As well as reviewing the official reports from the game, they are writing to both clubs seeking their observations.

Meanwhile, some Brighton and Crystal Palace fans took to social media to criticise the policing.

At around 10pm, shortly after the match ended, videos shared on Twitter showed chaos unfolding at Norwood Junction station.

Ben Nagle, assistant sports editor at the MailOnline, tweeted: “The latest episode in the ‘Disastrous Palace-Brighton policing’ series at Norwood Junction. Hundreds of police on the platform, train to East Croydon turns up… half the fans, and all the police, get on – and then they let the entire away end into the station, no police in sight.”

Another supporter wrote that away and home fans were let into the station at the same time which caused chaos.

“It was awful. We were penned in by Norwood Junction, about 20 of us, between the wall to the cherries and two police vans,” one Crystal Palace fan claimed on Twitter.

“A few people were put in with us who weren’t even football fans but they weren’t allowed out, they had no f****** clue why. Madness.”

A Crystal Palace fan who was at the station said that he would have expected Brighton faithful to be held longer by police until Palace fans had got on their trains home.

When Brighton fans arrived at the station there were still a large number of Palace fans waiting for their trains home.

In a video tweeted by journalist Logan MacLeod, fights can be seen breaking out between fans on a platform at the station with police in the middle of the crowd.

Met Police have been contacted for further comment.
