New favourite named as Wrexham speak on manager job speculation abuse

A new favourite has been named by the bookmakers Sky Bet as Wrexham speak on the manager job speculation abuse towards Casey Stoney.

Executive director Humphrey Ker has provided supporters with an update regarding the search for the Red Dragons’ new boss.

Former England defender Casey Stoney, who left Manchester United after three years in charge of the Women’s Super League side in May, said the individuals who had targeted her on social media should be “ashamed”.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The Wrexham AFC board is committed to returning the club to the EFL at the earliest opportunity and are currently running a process to find a manager who will be best suited to achieve this objective.

“We have a formal process in place and are hugely encouraged by the quality of the candidates who have put themselves forward already.

“However, we are disturbed by the abuse aimed at potential candidates on social media and would like to apologise to them on behalf of the club.

“As the overwhelming majority of our fans will agree – this type of behaviour is not welcome at Wrexham AFC and we will continue to work with the rest of football to make online abuse a thing of the past.”

“For the lovely people on here that are abusing me for even being linked with a job in the men’s game please do yourself a favour & lower your blood pressure,” Stoney tweeted on Tuesday evening.

“I am happily spending time with my family thank you if you have a daughter, sister, wife or mother you should be ashamed.”

Meanwhile, there is a new favourite named as Wrexham speak on the manager job speculation abuse, find out who that is below…

Michael Flynn – 2/1
Nigel Clough – 3/1
Casey Stoney – 4/1
John Askey – 7/1
Graham Alexander – 8/1
Mark Hughes – 10/1

That is according to Sky Bet as of 4pm on Wednesday the 2nd of June. Check out this list of UK gambling sites.

After, losing the League Two playoff final during the Bank Holiday weekend, Newport County boss Michael Flynn spoke on his future.

He states he is proud to lead his hometown club but needs to recharge his batteries before committing to holding the reins for another crack at League Two in 2021/22.

He is under contract and needs to decide whether he will join forces with a sporting director, who is former Scarborough boss Darren Kelly.

“I’ve got a year left. They have employed a sporting director with a three-year contract so I need to sit down and see which direction the club are going in and where we go from there,” said Flynn.

“I can’t say 100 per cent that I will be back in August. A lot of things have gone on this season that I have not been happy with, I’ve kept them quiet and we will be sitting down and having a conversation.

“A few things need to get ironed out. I love this club more than anything, that’s probably why it gets to me as much as it does. Let’s just say there might be two different ways where we think the club is going.”

Flynn stressed that it wasn’t the decision to appoint Kelly that has prompted his need for reflection.

“I am not against that as an idea,” he said. “There are things to talk about behind the scenes.

“I am not happy at the minute, the emotions are high. I’ve got another year and I am somebody who is honourable but let’s see how the chats go.”

Since taking the reins at Rodney Parade in 2017, the 40-year-old has been part of the Exiles’ Great Escape from relegation to the National League, to then go on lucrative FA Cup giant-killing runs and also led them to the 2019 and 2020 League Two playoff final.

Fans reacted as a new favourite is named whilst Wrexham speak on the manager job speculation abuse…

@rexham: This sort of statement increases my confidence in the management of the whole club goings forward. It should never have needed saying but it did.

@MattyWebber88: Da iawn. The only thing that matters about the candidate is their quality and commitment, no other factors need to be brought into it

@welshy1000: Words fail me. Not acceptable

@mallers01: Absolutely…..thought we were better than other clubs. Some people need a long hard think. This isn’t what we are or what we want to build!

@RichWXM: Hear hear! The best person for the job should be the one who gets it, regardless of gender, race or anything else for that matter. Some of our so called ‘fans’ don’t deserve to be associated with our great club

@1864wrexhamafc: Hard to read that anyone linked to our club would be so vile! I would hope it is formally reported and appropriately investigated

@tonywhilding88: there’s an element of our fan base who don’t deserve to be associated with our wonderful club, embarrassing isn’t the word.

@sarahwxm: Can’t believe our club has to put statements out like this thanks to the moronic element of our support 😢🤬🤬🤬🤬

@_Mr_Fumble: It’s a lot of things… Unacceptable and embarrassing are just two of the words I’d use to describe the abuse and I hope people realise it doesn’t reflect the views of the majority.

@JoshTomos1990: Well said. Embarrassing some have sent abuse. They’re not football fans in the slightest and taint the great image of our club and its real supporters. Here’s to the future, no matter who takes charge!

@djpoveywfc: Definitely deserved this statement! Some fans are an embarrassment and there’s no need for the abuse

@ryanpri60714028: Why are people still able to abuse people online with no repercussions

@DavidLe20960040: When I read a post by anyone that as suffered any form of abuse I never read any of the comments, wouldn’t give these individuals the time of day. The club have acted in the correct manner, if any of these comments have been made by so called WXM fans, we don’t f**king want you

@redfern438: Any abuse them fans should not be welcome and banned from even talking about Wrexham let alone watch games. They need educating and wake up in a real world

@MSeeYou21: Well said, but a lot of the messages are not from fans of our club, just bigoted idiots who have no respect for women, and afraid of change. If she is the best candidate, then hire her, so long as it’s done for the right reasons, not just to be PC.
