New Derby County manager announcement imminent

Derby County are set to confirm the departure of Chelsea bound Frank Lampard and reveal his replacement will be Phillip Cocu later today or tomorrow.

Journalist John Percy wrote on Twitter that “dcfc are moving closer towards appointing Phillip Cocu as their new head coach. Understand Cocu’s proposed No 2, Twan Scheepers, has been given a tour of Derby’s training ground. Lampard to #cfc should be confirmed tonight/tmrw.”

BetVictor were offering odds on who would be the next manager at Pride Park, however earlier today suspended the market.

According to the Sunday Times, Derby want a manager who will nurture the academy players and are impressed with Cocu’s track record.

The 48 year old is a former Fenerbahce and PSV manager who has also been an assistant for the Netherlands.

He won three Eredivisie titles and one Dutch cup with the latter, before moving on to the Turkish club though was sacked after 15 games with a record of three wins, five draws and seven defeats.

He has also had a playing career, making 598 appearances and scoring 122 goals in total for AZ Alkmaar, Vitesse, PSV, Barcelona and Al Jazira.
