Neil Warnock goes viral with hilarious response to question; Huddersfield keen on League One boss

Neil Warnock goes viral with a hilarious response to a question put to him, and Huddersfield Town are reportedly keen on a League One boss.

As he reflected on the hugely significant 3-2 away victory over Watford, the 74-year-old was in great spirits at Vicarage Road come full time.

He spoke to HTTV about his belief, the work to be done, and his pride at seeing Jack Rudoni score and Kian Harratt score their first goals for the team.

An interviewer asked: “Want to ask you, after a run like this, that I think most of us are still scratching our heads about, given how the majority of the season has gone, how does something like this come about? Is it something as simple as belief and confidence?”

To which Warnock replied: “Well, it’s having a good manager in it, really.”

On the game, he said, as per Yorkshire Live: “”I thought it was a decent game. Hot conditions. The fans were loud, it was a great challenge against some of their players. You’ve got to give yourself a chance and the lads knew what they were doing.

“I said to Ronnie if we were only losing 1-0 at half time I’d be happy, then we went and scored which confused me a bit.

“It wasn’t like Boro where we didn’t do much first half. We played a lot better first half and you can’t take away what a good side Watford are. It’s been a great performance. Wardy did superb in the end on his own as well.”

On individuals: “Koroma and Ruffels down that side were very solid and I was told when I arrived those two could have been let go. They may get good contracts somewhere else this summer and they’ll be thanking me, won’t they!

“Jack said he was going to come and give me a hug when he scored and he didn’t! He hit both posts in training yesterday and I told him to save it for today.”

On versatility and going out of the drop zone: “We changed the shape mid-game as well. We wanted to pick an XI that could adapt to whatever shape Watford used and I felt the lads adapted well.

“February-March-April is my time, isn’t it? If I keep them up I might get another one next year – Chelsea might come for me next year!

“We’ve got three out of four away from home though. I’ve never had a run-in as bad as this. It’s still very tight and we’ll need to bring some new lads in on Monday.

“We want a big crowd on Monday against Blackburn. They were brilliant against Middlesbrough and I told the lads they had to get the fans going, which they did. That was as good an atmosphere as I’ve seen.

“It looks a lot better than it did four weeks ago. I can tell when I’m talking to them that they’re all listening to me and I think they trust me, and that’s all I want them to do. Every team I play we have different tactics and we don’t get too frustrated. I can’t fault the lads and they’re giving me everything.

“You know me from how long I’ve been going and I don’t like anyone who misses out on a header or a tackle. I won’t say what we were against Burnley because you can’t say stuff like that nowadays, but we were, then against Coventry we were soft. But I don’t think we are now. We’ve stood up for ourselves and come back from a goal behind which I think shows real character.

“I don’t think they were convinced we could win three on the trot like this but they’ve done it now. We don’t want to be worried about winning every game – we’ll try – but we want to get the points we need to be safe. We probably need another eight points now. Wouldn’t it be nice to be safe with three games to go?! [laughs]”

Meanwhile, according to Alan Nixon’s Patreon report, Barnsley coach Michael Duff has been identified by Huddersfield Town as a long-term replacement for Neil Warnock.

Huddersfield’s new owner, Kevin M Nagle, is believed to be a big fan of Duff’s Barnsley work and it’ll no doubt all depend what league the two clubs play in next season.

Barnsley will be looking for promotion to the second tier, the Reds currently sitting six points behind the top-two teams in League One, and may have to settle to be in the play-offs after their defeats to Burton Albion and Exeter City.

Warnock was appointed as replacement to Mark Fotheringham in February.

The 74-year old signed a short-term agreement at Huddersfield, which will expire in June.

Warnock managed to lead his team to four wins in the nine league games he has overseen during this spell.

This is what fans said as Neil Warnock goes viral with a hilarious response to an interviewer’s question…

@Bobby14748064: Best manager the champ has ever seen

@hammo196159: When he was SUFC manager I loathed him as an Owl. But when you look at his career there’s no denying he is a good manager and man manager. Top bloke. Great banter always.

@iiSteveJonesii: I mean, the man has a good point really 🤣

@MConstantineLM: I’m convinced that he could take over any championship team who are in the bottom three in Feburary and guide them to safety no matter the squad.

@Dignan92: Neil Warnock: One of the best managers England never had.

@wilki_nufc: Bloke would have saved the titanic from going down!

@mikedoney: The look at the camera there. Got to like this fella

@BoroPublished: I love Neil. You lot have an excellent manager

@beniboi86: Honestly didn’t think he’d pull it off. But the guys a legend. Knows his football. Total respect to him

@TownTerrier: I mean, he’s not wrong is he.

@SmudgerCPFC: Ha ha absolutely brilliant. Chuffed for the bloke. Legend

@inkyfagin: Neil’s a Legend, passion for the game in abundance & the skill to give an under performing team that self belief back to gain results. Done it time & time again. All that & a no BS attitude calling out officials over poor decisions. Love the guy.

@ARJW78: The man isn’t wrong. What a wonderful antidote to ageism, and the perennial thirst for systems, stats, meaningless XG and the rest of the twaddle. As we have found at Palace modern is not always best.
