Neil Harris doesn’t hold back as he sends message to ‘thickos’ after Millwall lose to Coventry

Neil Harris doesn’t hold back as he sends a message to ‘thickos’ after Millwall lose to Coventry on Saturday afternoon.

Ephron Mason-Clark’s only goal of the game sealed the first victory of the Frank Lampard era with the Sky Blues as they edged past the Lions.

It also ended a run of five league games without a win for Coventry and saw them four points clear of the drop zone in the Championship table.

Millwall however were without a number of key players, including the likes of Romain Esse and Josh Coburn, and struggled with any kind of attacking threat as their nine-match unbeaten run came to an end, while it was also Millwall’s first home defeat since their 1-0 loss to Luton in September.

“I’m disappointed with the result obviously,” Harris said, per Southwark News. “We just lacked quality, didn’t we?

“No problem handling the football at times. In transition we gave it away a few times too cheaply, which caused us problems. I thought first half we were the slightly better team, but no end product, no creativity.

“Second half, I thought Coventry had a good ten-minute spell around the goal and looked dangerous. I thought their subs made a real difference, some real good players coming off the bench.

“We just looked like a team that was trying really hard and just lacked the moments.

“That’s where I think people have to get their head out of clouds and realise we’ve done well to achieve what we’ve achieved so far and how tough it is for us as a group.

“Right at the end we’re putting the ball in the box and one of the young centre-forwards and young wingers are standing outside the penalty area. It just shows we’ve got a lot of learning in front of us.

“That’s just levels isn’t it. That’s levels and that’s why you rely on players to have those moments and we lacked that level today.

“You miss Romain [Esse], you miss Japhet [Tanganga] and you miss Jake Cooper. Three players that probably get in anybody’s Championship team.

“So just a reminder to people, the thickos, that when you take the three best players out of the team that that this is Millwall football club.”

Millwall manager Neil Harris told BBC Radio London:

“I thought first half we were the better team, but lacked a cutting edge and a couple of chances we did have we put over the bar or wide. Second half, I thought Coventry were better than us until right at the end.

“I thought the last five minutes summed us up as a group really – we got into really good areas, just lacked the quality to hurt teams at this level.

“Today we struggled, and at the end of the game a final moment – the ball comes into the box and I’ve got my centre forward and wide player standing outside the penalty area.”

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard told BBC CWR:

“The first half was a bit slow from us, it’s not easy to come here and the conditions were obviously very difficult.

“But there were things we could have done which we didn’t do which made it difficult in the first half, it was a bit passive from us.

“We got some messages across at half-time and I’m really, really proud of them – we played quicker, created chances and probably should have been two up before that last five to 10 minutes when we had to suffer a bit.

“Really pleased with the character, really pleased with the personality of the team and it’s a nice win. It’s a small step forward because there’s a lot to do, but we’re very happy.”

Frank Lampard, per Sky Sports:

“I think in this league you have to have that [fully committed defending] and I felt it was something that was a little bit lacking last week in terms of that last bit of commitment.

“When you come here, particularly, they make it really tough for you, and conditions were tough and balls coming into your box at the end of the game, you have to do it.

“That’s probably the biggest plus for me and the players.

“We didn’t play beautifully, the first half was too slow and passive – I told them that at half-time – and we were almost allowing the game to drift and then anything can happen here.

“But they grabbed it in the second half, we played quicker, we played forward and we created enough chances to possibly be winning 2-0 and have the game done but when it wasn’t done we defended really well and that has to continue.”

As mentioned, Neil Harris doesn’t hold back as he sends a message to ‘thickos’ after Millwall lose to Coventry, this is how fans reacted…

@LiamPanther_92: Let’s take esse off him so it’s only the two best players 🤝

@HPackham17: Never known a manager to crack this bad when any criticism comes his way. Harris has been rightfully called out these last two weeks and he can’t seem to take it. It’s either the players fault or us as fans are ‘living in the clouds’ for wanting a shot on target at home.

@tommymfc16: We’ve been the second best team in the league since he arrived and he’s getting abuse on a weekly basis like we’re bottom of the league

@JimmyLion85: He’s not cracking at all. He’s just letting the thickos know that they’re thickos. He means you by the way

@DavidMitchSoton: He’s not cracking. He’s just calling out thick cunts like you that don’t stop moaning about us punching well above our weight in this league.

@CharRMFC: Fucking deluded guy 😂😂 I refuse to watch another live game where George Honeyman is impersonating a professional footballer

@dazza3101: Didn’t have the ability?that’s because you don’t have the ability to play attacking football. Criminal comments again and he’s never wrong!! Like his football he’s fcuking clueless

@gavstravels: Wtf is the prick calling us thickos ?!! He was clueless at Oxford , a fucking thicko himself

@jmDCFC: If Paul Warne called me a thicko my head would be on Mars

@HMPG2000: Some man Don Harris 🤣🤣

@AliJones9: How many managers have really wanted to say this 🤣

@JJKO95: Didn’t have the ability is ridiculous, we kept playing down the left. Our best player that half, Azeez was on the right. Give him the flipping ball. #Millwall This guy is going to drive the players we want out of this club 🤦🏻‍♂️

@deanmfc1885: Digging out two young players and calling people thickos… why ain’t you put that up. He’s creating a problem here clear as day for everyone to see

@BL10CBL: Great player for us. Sadly limited Manager and wont hold his hands up. Waffles and same broken record about the final third we had with Rowett aswell. The young players cant learn much in the 21’s or stuck on the bench!!! Get back to basics with this lot and ATTACK games!!!

@davidpercival42: As a cov fan take a 1.0 win but tonight i want to pay tribute to paul Green my millwall s/t friend who died on Thursday after a short cancer battle .You will be so missed paul lad .a true lion even in the darkest hour #ynwa paul a true Gent
