Neco Williams breaks silence after suffering major injury in Nottingham Forest’s win against Brighton

Neco Williams breaks his silence after suffering a major injury in Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 win against Brighton in midweek.

Nottingham Forest came from behind to get a vital victory to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone, but it didn’t start well as Brennan Johnson had also saw a spot kick saved by Jason Steele and Facundo Buonanotte opened the scoring with a tap in for Brighton.

But Steve Cooper’s side fought back, with help from a Pascal Gross own-goal during first-half stoppage-time.

This was followed by an accurate low shot by Brazilian midfielder Danilo, and then a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty.

After the final whistle, Forest fans made quite the atmosphere in approval as their 11-game streak without a victory came to an end.

This was the first match this season that they won after conceding first. It was enough for them to surpass Everton and Leicester.

Neco Williams was however taken to hospital after a nasty collision between him and Johnson when they attempted to reach Gibbs White’s chipped crossing to the far post.

He tweeted: “Absolutely buzzing the lads got the win yesterday but at the same time I am gutted to say my seasons over for sustaining a broken jaw 😔 I will do everything I can to help my teammates bring home those points every game ❤️#coyr 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️ @NFFC”

Niakhaté als picked up a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s win over Brighton and was replaced by Joe Worrall in the 14th minute.

The defender’s injury will be assessed of the Reds’ trip to West London at the weekend.

Neco Williams will also be missing due to fracturing his jaw in the same game, with the Head Coach also giving a reaction to the full-back’s injury.

Speaking at the press conference, Cooper said: “It’s still a bit inconclusive on Moussa. We’ll have to see in regards to tomorrow.

“He definitely did the right thing coming off, he felt something in the game and we were able to make the change, but regards to the extent of his availability, we’ll have to wait and see.

“Taiwo Awoniyi also took a real bang to his shoulder too, so these are all things we have to consider ahead of Saturday.”

On Neco Williams’ injury, the Head Coach added: “Everybody saw the collision on the pitch and when someone gets stretchered off you always fear the worst.

“He’s had an operation which has gone well, but it rules him out for the season and now he’s on the road to recovery.

“It’s a difficult situation for him, he’s recently got back into the team and he’s been playing well.

“He was playing with confidence, so it’s a blow for him and a blow for us.”
