Much needed funds needed to help Northern Premier League club amid struggling times

Much needed funds are needed to help Northern Premier League Division One West club Skelmersdale United amid struggling times.

The Lancashire based outfit say they need your help, to provide a long-term sustainable future with over £400 already donated.

Chris Watts, a Professional Football Scout, Talent ID & Opposition Analysis for Everton and Skelmersdale, wrote: “Non league football clubs need all of the local support that they can get in the current climate, would be greatly appreciated as we look to improve our equipment and facilities.”

Hi, we are calling on all our amazing Skelmersdale United fans and the fantastic non-league community to enable us to support our team over the next few months and into the oncoming new season.

Skelmersdale United has a long history in the game, being started in 1882, and will continue to do so.

Things have been very difficult over the last few months as we have had to temporarily move our home ground to Burscough Fc. We have also faced increased costs for training at the JMO and ground rental at the Community ground.

Burscough have been amazing in their support and have agreed to work being done for our team to continue in the NPL, as the ground needs to conform to certain grading standards set by the league. Your kind donations will assist us in completing those changes and help us to bring our amazing team back to Skelmersdale.

We are also forming links with local and national charities such a Skelmersdale food bank, who we enjoy having at our home games for supporters to donate food items to on match days. In our new ground we will hope to have a community hub for children’s, women’s and disabled football playing too. We have had the pleasure of Clay Brow and St. George’s Eagles grassroots teams as mascots at quite a few home games this season and it’s fantastic to see how much they love coming to games and meeting our players. We also have a very successful Academy who are doing extremely well.

Please can you help us achieve these goals?

We will keep everyone updated on the level of funding achieved and what the funds are used for.

Here is a break down of what we are aiming to do with the monies raised:

– Fit new stand and other items needed to fulfil the NPL ground grading to keep our team in this league next season.

– Provide up to date training equipment for the playing squad

– Provide First Aid and Physio Equipment

– Commence preparatory work on our new ground back in Skelmersdale

Jonathan N J Southward, Commerical Manager at Skelmersdale United, said on the club’s Facebook group: Hi everyone , So I have been at the club just over a month, I have took notice of what our clubs fans seem to be saying. I know that the main focus will be a ground back in Skelmersdale and trust me people at the club are doing their upmost of make this happen as fast as possible. Other than that the club has been dying for some commercial and marketing not just to locals but to the world of football and beyond! The lads have stepped up year on year and taken us to a new level, and it is only right that we progress of taking the club to another level off the field. We have alot of exciting partnerships, Sponsorships, and projects coming together. Keep an eye our for these over the next few weeks. I ask that all fans please back the club in its process going forward. The next 18 months is huge for the club and with your support we can achieve something huge both on and off the field. All of us at Skelmersdale United FC realise that times are hard for everyone but if you are able to donate even £1 to the club that will go towards making a huge difference.

This is what social media had to say as with much needed funds needed to help the Northern Premier League club amid struggling times…

@BenjiBarnes8: If you can help please do. Non league needs as many clubs to be financially secure as possible in order for it to keep flourishing.

@seanp1878: So Sad that teams have to even do this sort of thing. 💙

Darren Carr: I have a question to the committee and Chairman. Does anyone want to actually say what is happening next season.I am very concerned as to where Skelmersdale United will be playing next season.
Have heard rumours but will not say anything till we have proof.Im sure I’m not alone. Please can someone from the club front up and say what’s happening. The Players and staff have been magnificent this season achieved so much with what has gone on, and I’m sure they would love to know as well as to where they are playing.I ask every Skelmersdale United fan to raise these questions to the chairman and committee the fans are the life blood of any club and deserved to be told good or bad news. To say nothing is disrespectful.

Gordon Johnson: Darren to try and answer your question as best I can, the club cannot play back in Skelmersdale next season as there is currently not a ground in the town that meets the requirements of playing in the semi-professional football pyramid. The Council are looking at areas which they hope to lease to the club this coming summer to allow us to access appropriate funding and sponsorship avenues to develop a ground during the 2023/24 playing season. In the interim period though we will most likely continue playing at Burscough FC and are in the process of finalising that arrangement now with both Burscough FC and the FA. I hope that helps a little, as soon as there are any further developments I will of course let you know via this medium and in match day programme notes as I have tried to do during the last few months for fans who are able to get to our games. Please believe me when I say we are doing everything we can to get the club back to Skelmersdale at the earliest opportunity.
