Miron Muslic slams Plymouth’s mentality after defeat to Hull increases relegation fears

Miron Muslic slams Plymouth’s mentality after a 2-0 defeat to Hull increases his side’s relegation fears on Tuesday night.

Joe Gelhardt and Abu Kamara sealed a vital win for Tigers in bid to avoid the drop, while for Argyle, their hopes of survival suffered a dent, as they’re now six points from safety in the Championship with 11 games remaining.

Plymouth’s remaining fixtures: (H) Sheffield Wednesday, (A) Portsmouth, (H) Derby, (A) Watford, (H) Norwich City, (A) Swansea, (H) Sheffield United, (A) Middlesbrough, (H) Coventry, (A) Preston, (H) Leeds.

Plymouth’s Miron Muslic:

“We simply didn’t show up today in a game that we knew was a big one for us.

“There are too many players who cannot deliver consistently the performances we need to be competitive.

“I know we played a fantastic game a couple of days ago, but the reality in the Championship is fighting for every inch on the pitch and we missed this today completely.

“We showed a lot of this character and effort for the last couple of weeks, that’s why we’ve been able to collect points.

“The second goal, with all due respect, this player (Pedro) is one-and-a-half metres offside. I think at this level we should see this.

“Of course, I just went to him (the referee) after the game and wished him all the best and just said at this level, that’s a big decision against us. It’s a big game and I think we can do it better.

“It’s not about changing the players, it about changing the mentality,” Muslic told BBC Radio Devon.

“The Championship is (about) fight, it’s physical, it’s duels, and I think we showed it in an excellent way over the last couple of weeks and we didn’t show it tonight.

“If we don’t show it, we don’t have the quality to compete.”

Hull’s Ruben Selles:

“It’s three points. I’m very pleased with the performance of the team.

“We came today with the idea of being solid in the things that we do and only with that we can get a result. I think the result is a consequence of the way we played the game.

“As much as we can keep the situation in our hands – remember when we had the first press conference, we were rock-bottom and a couple of points away from anyone.

“I don’t want to think about a second win in a row because every time we sit here talking about that – it’s happened five times, this is my sixth victory – we end up not getting it.

“For me it’s important that we arrive on Saturday and make the game very competitive. That’s the only way we can go there and get three points.”

Hull City head coach Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Humberside:

“We looked to perform in the proper way and we did the things we wanted to do in the game today.

“One of the key things was to be brave, to get the tempo high and I am pleased everyone got on board.

“I was not worried about the first 45 minutes – you cannot expect teams in our position right now to be perfect. I expected the game they prepared for us, but we controlled the game.

“The early goal in the second half helped. When you score the first goal it is massive. It gave us more space but we had to carry on playing with intensity.”

Twitter users reacted as Miron Muslic slams Plymouth’s mentality after defeat to Hull increases relegation fears…

@VinceRennie: @SimonHallett this is on you and the board for choosing Rooney last summer! You gave us no chance before a ball was even kicked, worst PR stunt ever!

@dunc4ns: Absolutely abysmal. The lack of recruitment in January after a horrendous managerial appointment in the summer is the reason for this relegation. It was avoidable.

@robertsmith39: We are so awful to watch. Set up for a point with Hazard taking his time in minute 12. Why didnā€™t we set up to attack? Can accept losing but that was dreadful.

@StevieWotsa: Knew this was coming from last Saturday! The highs of Saturday to the lows the following tuesday written in the stars. Many of which those fans that made the trip to Hull were there on Saturday also given false hope for performance like that dreadful! No urgency whatsoever.

@NftTyco: High highs, low lows. Donā€™t see a way out now unfortunately.

@sixtiessongs: Callum Wright brings bundles of energy and attacking intent. Should have started. Also Szűcs should be starting for his long throw ins. 0.19xG tells you all you need to know about the team Muslic put out and how he told them to play. Cowardly.

@VinceRennie: He has to shoulder alot of the blame for last night, I know our attacking threat is non existent most of the time but we just sit back all the time and hope we can get a long ball to fall in our favour every game, that’s not going to work in the championship!

@Niall_pafc: Simon Hallett needs to sell the club he has damaged all of the hard work it took to get us to the Championship the arrogance of hiring Rooney is what did this

@Zach479129001: Nice to see heā€™s pretty much blaming players for no effort but the tactics were honking!

@JPOTH34: As a bloke he looks a good guy but as a manager we have seen nothing.

@greenleerob: I do feel some sympathy for the players. Most of them arenā€™t good enough for this league. But, Under Rooney they were asked to play a passing style and now with Muslic they are trying to recreate a Sam Allardyce style, without the tools for the job. #pafc

@jackolesliepafc: Ultimately. After the pure euphoria of staying up on the last day last Season. To then have a chance of a fresh start. A chance of redemption. For us to cockily and foolishly appoint Wayne Rooney out of all the available options. We deserve to be relegated. We really do. #pafc

@_ArgyleDan: The damage was already done pre-Muslic, how some fans are calling him out already is laughable.we must accept relegation. Unless a miracle happens. Rebuild in the summer and go again! #pafc

@olpafc_: Terrible atmosphere, bunch of happy clappers at the end as well. Away end just as bad as the players on the pitch. Only bonus was no ā€˜left side right sideā€™ bollocks #pafc

@PilgrimCas1437: Fans turning on other fans. Toxic Argyle is back šŸ˜ #pafc
