Minute’s silence for Queen at Nottingham Forest vs Fulham marred by swearing and shouting

A minute’s silence for the Queen at Nottingham Forest vs Fulham ended up being marred by swearing and shouting from some fans in the stands.

The moment to respect the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was shockingly interrupted at the City Ground with some graphic language heard.

The Premier League gets back underway after fixtures were called off last weekend to mark the death of Her Majesty.

While some clubs were back in action midweek in their European matches, those not involved played on Friday night.

As well as the match at Forest, Aston Villa were also playing host to Southampton and in both matches before kick-off, there was a minute’s silence to commemorate the Queen’s death.

However, at the City Ground, the minute was marred that sparked an angry outburst from other fans in the stadium.

As the players lined up around the centre circle and in the midst of silence, a cry could be heard that sounded like “you Reds”. The shout was heard a few times before another fan shouted back “shut up, you c***”.

It’s claimed on Twitter however the shouter was a kid, with his mum heard saying ‘he’s got Tourettes’ to let everyone know it wasn’t done on purpose.

That led to further outbursts and boos that could be heard around the stadium during what was supposed to a moment of solemn remembrance. Even some of the players looked around in disbelief or awkwardness.

The heckles were eventually drowned out by applause as the match prepared to get underway. However, it did little to disturb what turned out to be a brilliant game of football.

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi put the hosts ahead early but Fulham hit back to score three in five minutes early second half to make it 3-1. Lewis O’Brien got one back but it was not enough as the Cottagers left Nottingham with all three points and some would say putting pressure on Steve Cooper despite the job he’s done for them in the last year or so.

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper said: “I think a lot of it is self-inflicted. I don’t think we can just say things aren’t going our way.

“We just aren’t managing conceding the first goal very well. We want to keep a clean sheet, but when we do concede a goal we aren’t settled enough after it and there’s been a few occasions now where once one goes in, we look vulnerable and that was the case tonight.

“We took the lead and I thought we were okay in the first half. Fulham had more of the ball but we were fairly in control without the ball and I actually thought we started the second half really well. I told the lads they have to play a lot better.

“We’ve turned the ball over twice for the first two goals in areas that we shouldn’t do.

“We will look at ourselves first and see that we are not doing certain things in our game well.”

Fulham boss Marco Silva said: “We were the best team on the pitch and we deserved the three points. After their first goal, we took control of the match.

What a start to the second half. The intensity, we were much quicker and more dynamic as a team. I just told them to increase to be aggressive on the ball and we did it.

“It is a fantastic feeling for us, even if in the last few minutes we suffered a little bit. They didn’t create chances, but with the second goal they got a little bit of belief.

“But we controlled the game well and we deserved the three points. Congratulations to the players. They have been working really hard. They have been showing quality as well to match all the other sides at this level.”

There was reaction online to a minute’s silence for the Queen at Nottingham Forest vs Fulham marred by swearing and shouting…

@chloexnffc: Absolutely disgraceful

@Kel_NFFC: Absolutely no need completely disgusted. 60 seconds of keeping quiet whatever you think

@Debs90181034: Unfortunately, I knew this might happen and is one of the reasons I think football was postponed. Everyone said to me that it wouldn’t be a problem but I knew it would.

@leeAH769: This is why football was cancelled 🤷‍♀️

@Hillisandy: Hope they get a good talking to, so disrespectful

@razzo1: Bloody disgrace

@Millymarvel19: Even the players looked embarrassed when the cameras zoomed in.

@MLRetirement: No class.

@dleeg27: Worse than Liverpool 😬

@comeonurams: Disgraceful. Pathetic. 😡

@Biggsy72: Just got home, the minutes silence was disgraceful. Was ashamed to be a Forest fan

@_Paul_NFFC: Embarrassing! Not surprised football was cancelled

@richnffc62: We’ll get absolutely slated for these gobshites 🤬

@MevaRed: This is appalling and hope those involved are ashamed of themselves but of course they won’t be. Sad that a spontaneous round of applause has to break out during a minutes silence just to quell the scum. This along with another woeful display was a dark night for our club #NFFC

@OllyBausor: I was SO angry, it’s embarrassing for the club, and country! Loads of us fuming in the crowd, it’s that bad we had to start a round of applause! Weird night all round to be honest! #NFFC

@Rob_Leah: Embarrassed and appalled as a Forest fan after tonight, handful of fans shouting and screaming during the minute silence, stewards starting on fans and telling us to sit down when we trying to get behind our team, then throw away a 1-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home.. again. #NFFC

@Fred_Heathcote: Not being funny, but that kid that has tourettes, knowing his condition, he should’ve been kept downstairs during the silence. Not even a debate #nffc
