“I just get frustrated. Yeah, there’s added time, but then there should be added time onto the added time as well. I got a bit frustrated with that.”

“I enjoyed the game,” he added. “I thought we did a lot of really, really good things. We pinned them back, and I thought we did loads of good things.

“They’ve got some good quality, they’ve shown that all season, and at the top end of the pitch, they’re really dangerous. You don’t have to give them much space for them to look dangerous. We knew that, but I thought the boys largely dealt with that pretty well.

“There were moments where they looked dangerous, but I thought other than that, we were really good in the game. We largely defended in shape really well, and I thought we were really good with the ball, and dominated and controlled large parts of the game.

“I was really pleased with the boys, it was an incredible effort all the way to the end. We went for it, we had to go for it, and we threw everything at them.”

David Prutton said to Bamford: Lots of debate this weekend about the use of VAR in certain areas of football. There’s none here, which is wonderful for the Championship. He does appear to be slightly offside, Willy, but there’s a wonderful blocking movement from yourself right down the barrel of where the assistant referee may be looking along the line. Premeditated look.

Bamford replied: Bit of both, I’d say. It’s a little bit of luck that I was kind of in the linesman’s eyesight, but I was just putting myself there to kind of give Willy an option in case he wanted to square it more than anything.

Prutton: Did you think he’d square it?

Bamford: I was shouting, but honestly, no, I was just making sure I was there. Yeah it’s a tight call isn’t it, maybe just off.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke said: “First of all a good advertisement for Championship football, I think all the supporters have enjoyed the game.

“(It was) a great piece of football from two good sides who really went for it to win this game. To start the game with this unlucky goal, deflected pass that normally wouldn’t have been a chance, they scored out of this.

“Middlesbrough played today with freedom because it was more or less their last highlight, they could go for it and had a really good shape, then they are 1-0 up after just a few moments.

“To show such a reaction in the first half to come back to create so many chances, to score fantastic goals, was great for us to have.

“Compliments to Middlesbrough, they showed a fantastic performance, but great mentality from our players to lead 3-2 at half-time.

“We needed to show some steel and resilience in the last minutes to dig in and grind out this important result for us and we did.

“Many compliments for the heart, the mentality and the character of our players today and for their offensive quality.”
