Matt Le Tissier sparks further outrage before slamming ‘woke’ Gary Lineker

Matt Le Tissier sparks further outrage this week before slamming Gary Lineker, who he has described as being ‘woke’ when taking a pop at him.

The former footballer and pundit has put himself back in the headlines because of his outspoken views, continuing to spread theories over Covid, but also taking aim at the Match of the Day pundit.

He said Lineker is “woke” for his political stances and went on to question his “nice bloke” image, reigniting the feud between the two after the Southampton legend had been shut down in a debate over Covid, a topic which both ex-footballers speak about regularly.

Le Tissier said to the Times: “I find it funny that he goes out of his way to criticise me for having an opinion that’s different to his.

“I have followed Gary on social media for many years and a lot of the stuff I completely disagree with but I have never attacked him for it. But the other way round. He is meant to be the nice bloke, the woke Gary Lineker, nice and inclusive but he is the one going out of his way trying to dig me out.”

Lineker couldn’t help but laugh in the face of Le Tissier last September when the ex-Sky Sports pundit questioned why Covid was treated differently to the flu. “Why didn’t we ever try this hard to ‘defeat’ flu?” Le Tissier asked in one of his many controversial tweets.

“It has a similar fatality rate to ‘Covid’ and actually affects younger people more? Answers on a postcard.” The acclaimed Match of the Day presenter then brutally shut him down, quote tweeting the Twitter post with a response of: “Yeah Matt, why didn’t someone come up with a flu vaccine?”

Le Tissier says he ain’t backing down from his views despite the regular backlash he gets online.

“A couple of years ago I felt like something wasn’t right,” Le Tissier said. “People were interfering in my life who shouldn’t have been — mainly the government and scientists. I felt a real sense of injustice and when I feel a sense of injustice I can’t keep my mouth shut. I have to speak up.”

Back in January, he marched outside the BBC’s offices to vent out his anger over mandatory coronavirus vaccinations for NHS workers. Earlier this month following an unpopular tweet about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Le Tissier resigned from his role as an ambassador for Southampton.

“To all the fans of SFC. I have decided to step aside from my role as an ambassador of SFC,” Le Tissier explained. “My views are my own and always have been, and it’s important to take this step today to avoid any confusion. This does not affect my relationship with and love for my club, and I will always remain a fan and supporter of everything Saints.

“I can, however, see that due to recent events it’s important to separate the work I believe in from my relationship with the club I have supported and played for most of my life. I will see you all at St Mary’s and will always do anything I can to help the club.”

Le Tissier recently doubled down on his controversial beliefs about the Covid pandemic by claiming ‘PCR tests were the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on mankind’ and that dying Covid patients in Italy ‘were actors’ while the government’s interference in people’s lives during lockdown was an ‘injustice’.

When asked about images from Bergamo of hospitals overwhelmed by gasping, dying patients, he said: “Some of those were actors, by the way.”

Le Tissier thinks ventilators ‘caused harm to patients’ and PCR tests were ‘entirely responsible for elevating a flu bug into a pandemic’, adding that masks are a sign of weak compliance.

He claimed to built up this knowledge from ‘many scientific papers’, saying: “If you think otherwise, you haven’t really done your research without wishing to sound rude.

Le Tissier then changed topic, speaking on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, having previously sparked anger by asking the media’s coverage of the massacre of Ukrainian civilians by Russian troops with a retweet which has since been deleted.

On Twitter, Le Tissier retweeted a post suggesting the media have 'lied' about certain events
Le Tissier then tried to distance himself from his posts by saying he does 'not advocate war'

He explained: “The point of the tweet was to say ‘don’t believe everything you read in times of war because both sides use propaganda.'”

Le Tissier questioned the Russian killing of innocent Ukrainian civilians during the invasion by arguing that it is strange there is not more footage of fighting, given modern technology.

He said of the photos portraying destroyed villages and towns: “Some of those images have been falsified, you know that don’t you?”

Twitter users reacted as Matt Le Tissier sparks further outrage before slamming ‘woke’ Gary Lineker…

@pokeefe1: He actually needs help medically.

@casscj70: Glenn Hoddle and Venables were right all along then.

@DNHRN: What a twat

@TheJSug: Those actors must have signed great NDAs – all those hundreds of people sick with covid just actors and none of them coming forward with their contracts etc..? Seems like the greatest kept secret although somehow this ex footballer has insider knowledge?! 🤦‍♂️

@ryanngregoryy: One club legend that isn’t a nutter. That’s all I ask for

@foolsgold_: The most concerning part of this is that there are thousands more who think like this….

@Warren1978: Sad to see this. @mattletiss7 I was in Soton General with covid in November last year. So local to you. I can confirm there were no actors there… including one chap who had to be rushed off to ICU in my ward during my stay. I wish it was fake from my own experience.

@LHield1992: Matt Le Tissier didn’t actually score 100 Premier league goals, some of those replays are actually actors.

@BrexitMyArse: He’s gone. He’s totally and utterly round the bend now.

@Goonermikie: Getting the tic tac from Soccer Saturday really done a number him. Whether you believe it or not, is you choice obviously but this is next level.

@finjohnson18: The last few years have been tough but one of worst things for me to deal with has been the realisation that Matt Le Tissier is a fucking lunatic!

@georgelfc89: Stick to football punditry Le Tiss, oh wait …

@Snedders93: Once again Matt Le Tissier making himself look a right knob

@pompeyrabbi: #Pompey fans have been warning the rest of the world about him for years.

@wescart_: Reading that he’s not well, I hope he gets the help he needs.

@Paul1971EFC: I know it’s easy to call him bonkers or any other word meaning “lost his marbles” but it honestly goes to show how easy it is to be indoctrinated

@AlexLeyland: Has he offered up any evidence? Its amazing how many of these people just say “you haven’t done your research” rather than actually offering up any evidence themselves. Oh wait… he did say he read papers that nobody else has access to!

@Robbie_Don: Absolute oddball.

@StuartSwanton: For balance they should have Prof Van Tam on Match of the Day or Whitty on Soccer Saturday

@gdf1973: Van Tam is a massive football supporter. Guaranteed he would be a better pundit than most.

@JFleeto81: Matt Le Tissier is dangerous. What effin planet is he on
