Matheus Cunha gives a furious reaction back after being accused of ignoring Wolves fans after defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.
Chelsea beat Wolves 3-1 to move into top four of the Premier League; an error from Robert Sanchez allowed Matt Doherty to cancel out Tosin Adarabioyo’s opener.
Goal from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke goals secured the win, meaning Wolves remain above the drop zone on goal difference.
Liam Keen of the Express & Star tweeted after the final whistle: “Cunha is undoubtedly a fantastic player but his body language has been so poor today. #wwfc
He added: “Cunha straight down the tunnel.”
To which Matheus Cunha replied: “liar. I went to applaud them, congratulated the referees and the opposing players. Then I went to the tunnel. Don’t ever come and ask me to give you an interview again.”
Now a video from the away end has emerged. It zooms in on Cunha 45 seconds in, for a clearer look at those full time scenes… he walks over, and does applaud, but doesn’t go as close to the away end as his fellow teammates had, take a look.
This is a video from the end of the match last night it does seems to show that @mathcunha20 does stop briefly to applaud the fans before going to the dressing room #wwfc

Word of Cunha’s post-match actions led to being criticised by Wolves boss Pereira for his behaviour as captain of the side.
‘I had this conversation in the dressing room,’ Pereira said. ‘He can be frustrated because he wants to win, but everybody in the team wants to win.
‘I don’t like this body language. I want someone as a captain trying to help the team – running, suffering, fighting together. This is something I can understand. Next time, I will not understand.’
Then when asked about Cunha walking straight down the tunnel, Pereira added: ‘This is something that cannot happen again.’
On if his head has been turned amid January interest, he replied: ‘It’s human that the players start to be a little bit… it’s normal in football.’
Twitter users gave their thoughts as Matheus Cunha gives a furious reaction back after being accused of ignoring Wolves fans…
@tod1877: good video Dave, it proves he clapped the fans so even if Keen didn’t see it why on earth didn’t he try to find out before he tweeted it, he always says he doesn’t tweet transfers rumours just facts but he’s tweeted a false rumour about a player which has created a toxic reaction
@TrickyBunny: Clearly doesn’t just walk straight down the tunnel so Liam has an apology to make. Not what we need right now local journos actively stirring the pot.
@pedalsingh: Doesn’t just go down the tunnel. He’s one of the first to applaud and then goes. The rest of the team then come over together. You can see why he wanted to address the misinformation. Manager shouldn’t have commented either way, until he checked it out for himself.
@DHWrites: Claps the fans for 5 seconds. I know a lot of people are desperate to defend him. He’s easily our best player, but doesn’t mean he wasn’t poor on every front last night. If Hwang put in a stinker and then did this half-hearted clap to the fans he’d be ripped apart. #wwfc
@RB_PTraining: Gotta get straight over to all those fans who traveled on a Monday night not 10 yards from the half way line and put a performance in like that 🤦🏻
@grubsie99: Lets not turn on one of our best players please, were bad enough as it is.
@ThePabloMorgan: Disappointed in his own and the team’s performance understandably. Clear the air meeting with VP today would sort it and on to the next game. That, or else he wants away – let’s hope not! #UTW
@andrewcspt: Excellent work @LiamKeen_Star that’s all we need. 🥺
@geenar34: @LiamKeen_Star explanation please?
@AJReade: Good job @LiamKeen_Star, just started a witchhunt for no reason at all.
@wellygoggs: Bad look for Liam this. It unnecessarily stirs up an already angry fanbase towards the only player that can keep us up this season.
@roneilcallo: Yeah you’re gonna need to explain yourself here buddy @LiamKeen_Star 🤣
@NickAllen224: So Cunha did applaud the fans and didn’t head straight down the tunnel. Granted he still looked very half-hearted during the game but he definitely addresses the fans. Express & Star got it wrong and Vitor Pereira jumped on it. What the fuck is going on with our club? #WWFC
@ZakWWFC_: Liam Keen & The manager in the Mud. He claps for me. We move on.
@Laura02395618: Another Journo trying to stir up the pot and one that consistently never seems to call out Jeff Shi or the owners when we all know they are the root cause of this mess we are in! For the fans I just want to see the players putting 100 percent in for the 90 odd mins on the pitch
@JB_F1_: Definitely doesn’t just walk straight down the tunnel as @LiamKeen_Star said… you have an apology to make #wwfc
@DaneWWFC: So Liam’s fucked up then bad that he’s spread false info to periera as well who probably didn’t know Cunha clapped the fans
@Nicola_WWFC_: Well this is awkward
@_connor_01:
So two things:
– Liam keen obviously a knobhead and lied
– don’t let this half arsed clap from Cunha detract from the fact that he is giving fuck all on the pitch at the moment. I’d rather the player run his heart out and fight on the pitch than scrap a dodgy journo
