Matches postponed today across non league and FA Cup

We take a look at the matches which have been postponed today across non league and the much anticipated FA Cup second qualifying round.

Not only has the coronavirus pandemic caused a number of clubs to call off matches, but Storm Alex has now arrived with an amber warning, bringing major disruption and flooding up and down the nation.

The National League opening day is thankfully going ahead, however for some teams, that isn’t the case with a few matches falling foul to the weather.

Several clubs could risk forfeiting their place in the FA Cup. If an FA Cup tie is postponed today due to the weather, the game must be rearranged for this Sunday or Monday. The rules say that if the rearranged tie isn’t completed by Monday, both clubs will forfeit their place.

Forecaster Chris Fawkes warned the Met Office has issued a series of amber alerts as meteorologists fear the heavy rain brought in by the storm could cause major disruption and flooding. Mr Fawkes said: “We’ve got lots of heavy rain to come as we go on through the course of this weekend. 

“The Met Office have already issued amber weather warning for Wales, the West Midlands, southwest England, and eastern areas of Scotland.

“It’s here where the rain is going to be most persistent. If it’s not raining where you are at the moment, chances are it soon will be because we have got a lot of rain to come today.

“For Northern Ireland, we’ll escape with some brighter weather here for a time, maybe an odd shower.

“And for western fringes of Scotland, England and Wales, we’ll have a bit of dry weather before the rain arrives.”

He added: “Later in the afternoon, we’ll see the rain pull away from southeast England. For most of us it’s a cold day, temperatures roundabout 12C to 14C but perhaps 16C in the southeast given a few brighter spells.”
