Marti Cifuentes issues goodbye message as he leaves Queens Park Rangers

Marti Cifuentes issues a goodbye message as he leaves Queens Park Rangers, who are to replace him with Julien Stephan.

Marti has left QPR by mutual consent after a period of gardening leave, as announced on June 24th, finishing the 2024/25 season 15th with 56 points, 7 points above the drop zone and 12 points from the playoff places.

He joined as head coach in October 2023, Cifuentes played a key role in securing QPR’s Championship status in his first season and again in 2024/25 under challenging circumstances.

CEO Christian Nourry praised Cifuentes for his positive impact and wished him well.

In his farewell, Cifuentes expressed gratitude to the fans, players, and staff, highlighting the passion and support he felt at Loftus Road.

The club said in a statement on Wednesday (24 June): Marti Cifuentes has left the club by mutual consent following a period of gardening leave.

Cifuentes joined QPR as head coach in October 2023 and was instrumental in helping the club achieve Championship safety during his first season.

In 2024/25, the club retained its status in the second tier under Cifuentes’s guidance.

CEO Christian Nourry said: “The decision to place Martí on gardening leave towards the end of the season was not an easy one to make.

“As we now move forwards, I would like to thank Martí wholeheartedly for having a positive impact during his two years here.

“He did a fantastic job to help us remain in the division when we he first came in under difficult circumstances, and he worked hard to repeat that again in 2024/25.

“We wish him well for whatever comes next.”

Marti then said in his farewell: “Today I say goodbye to queens park rangers with a heart full of gratitude.

“I arrived at Loftus Road at a difficult time, with a huge challenge ahead, and yet from day one I felt the fans’ passion, unconditional support, and, above all, love for this very special club.

“Thank you for your energy every matchday. Your voice and your faith have always been a source of inspiration.

“I am proud to have been part of this club and to have contributed, alongside a fantastic team of players and coaching staff, to ensuring the club’s continued presence in the Championship over the last few seasons.

“It wasn’t always easy, but we did it the way great things are achieved: with hard work, honesty, and togetherness.

“We saw the development of many young players, and we had some amazing nights under the lights of Loftus Road – remembering Stan Bowles being one that sticks with me.

“Although my journey now continues in a different direction, I wish the club’s dedicated board, all the staff and players across every age group the best for the future.

“You R’s!!”

Fans impressed after Julien Stéphan explains decision to become new QPR head coach

Here’s how fans reacted after Marti Cifuentes issues a heartfelt goodbye message as he leaves Queens Park Rangers…

@SM24_06: Best gaffer we’ve had in a while. Thanks for Leeds – one of the best nights we’ve had in recent years.

@zac_rss: Thanks for helping us turn a corner after the Ainsworth/Critchley era. I will always be thankful for that but didn’t have to end the way it did Martí.

@amatt_stephen: Shame ended the way it did, wasn’t handled correctly but best its now over for both parties. Not going to bad mouth Marti, what’s done is done and we can now move on! Good luck

@DavidPh09584175: If you really appreciated what you had, you wouldn’t have gone chasing other jobs. No manager, NONE, in my years of supporting QPR, had what you had. Patience of the fans, you were adored. And you chucked it away. But no one is bigger than the club. Good luck

@QPRbimbo: Thank you for mutually consenting marti!! genuinely had such a special connection with us lot a shame how it ended but I wish this man nothing but the best, love him.

@PD1_8_8_2: What’s done is done and on we go, but I liked the cut of his jib and sad the way it ended, not a good look, but it will all be forgotten if we get a decent season behind us. Thanks for all you did, Marti, you were hard done by imho, now on with the new manager!

@takesbywill: Will be remembered as one of the few managers of this era who’s time we looked back on positively. Some great moments with him at the helm. Appreciate all that he did.

@Beanofire: Marti, firstly it shouldn’t have ended this way. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the club and the way you ‘got’ QPR. Best wishes for the future. Paella, Estrella and hating Chelsea forever. Adios mi amigo.

@P4UL5R: I wish @MCC14 Marti and his family the very best for the future and thank you Marti for some great memories and saving us from the drop. God bless you Marti. 💙🤍

@GAVQPR: Shame it had to end the way it has, but couldn’t stay after courting other jobs. BUT, we can’t forget what this man did! Got us out of deep shit in 23/24, and at times good football in 24/25. Enjoyed watching us again, and got the stadium at full capacity most weeks! Good luck M

@superhoopchris: Feels weird this one. Loved the guy but pissed off he wanted out.

@gammell_t: Who’s cutting onions?

@zac_rss: i don’t want to be sad but i am i thought he was the one yk

@Tom__Bage08: Can’t forgive him for what hes done but we can’t forget the brilliant moments we’ve had with him. Saving us in the god awful 23/24 season won’t ever be forgotten. Goodbye Spanish prince 💙🤍

@FR27Design: See man he got it, he got everything about us and really loved the club. Why on earth did he have to ruin it. He chose to window shop, he chose to go for every managerial job in the championship that came man. Just stupidity because now no one wants him 😭

@alexleboxe: …one of the 𝙂𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙏 managers this club has seen…certainly in the modern era. A manager who brought this club together and made us all proud to wear the blue and white scarf… A true football manager. @MCC14 #QPR

@Joemulcahy99: A shame it had to end the way he did because there’s no doubting he got the club and the fans.
