A few weeks ago, Marcus Maddison set up a new venture after temporarily stopping his football career over concerns for his welfare, confirmed in April.

The 27 year old has announced he is launching his own gaming channel with the Charlton Athletic winger cutting short his time with League Two high flyers Bolton due to struggling mindset wise being away from his family.

He announced via social media that he was launching a new venture, it read: “People have said to do what makes you happy and gaming has always been a huge passion of mine,” he wrote. “It is something I have looked into previously and now I am really gunna (sic) go for it.

“So tomorrow @officialmadgamer will be going live on Twitch from 7pm on what could be Verdansk (Call of Duty)’s last day.

“I would really appreciate if you guys could join me, like the channel and subscribe for all future content.

“My schedule is up for anyone who wants to check it out. So let’s play some games, have a laugh and enjoy life.”

Maddison said he was reviewing his career in football after leaving Bolton and the former Peterborough United man will be a free agent in the summer.

Talking in the matchday programme, Ian Evatt said he would like to see Maddison happy again.

“Marcus showed great strength in acknowledging that he needed support with his mental health and it goes without saying that myself and the club will continue to be there for him.

“Football takes a backseat when it comes to personal health and I wish him well and hope he can get himself back in the right place.”

You can check out his channel HERE.

Maddison said on stopping football: “Well the football industry has eventually broke me. All the abuse, pressures & monotony of the last 2 years has just got to me. I’ve tried to fit in & be happy but if I can’t be happy In a winning team fighting for promotion it’s clearly something deeper. I’m returning home to think do I want to play football any more as it just doesn’t bring me any joy at all. I can’t thank Ian Evatt enough for understanding & wish @officialbwfc all the best for the final run in”

“We would like to thank Marcus for his contribution during his time with us and he leaves with our full support,” Bolton manager Ian Evatt said.

“The consequences of the pandemic have brought many challenges to so many people, and Marcus, in particular, has found it exceptionally difficult being away from his young daughter and alone in his hotel room.

“First and foremost, our priority is the well-being of all our staff and players, and Marcus’s best interests are paramount.

“He is a very talented footballer and everybody at Bolton Wanderers Football Club wishes him well for the future.”

Bolton chairman Sharon Brittan added: “Having spent some time with Marcus over the past couple of weeks, it became clear that he was in need of some additional support.

“Marcus is a lovely man who I really warmed to and we will ensure that he gets the correct support he needs.

“Although his time with the club was relatively short, he will always remain in the Bolton family.”

@Liampufc1996: Good luck to him, a very gifted footballer. And if you’re abusing him you’re a sad little cunt. Lads opened up about his mental health and you want to point score because you don’t like him. Give your head a wobble. Don’t like him don’t interact it’s easy.

@HarryGardner26: got to respect it, hope he falls back in love with the game

@BwfcFans: Some of the replies here are tragic. The lad had clearly struggled and wants to enjoy his football again. Give the lad a break.

@Alfieerr: Wasn’t he a championship player? What happened?
