Manager Matt Seeley fumes after a referee ends the game just as his team Knowle FC were ‘about to win a non league title’.
In front of 435 fans, Knowle found themselves two down by half time, but got one back on 54 minutes, then got the equaliser on 98 minutes. However, with Knowle on the counter attack on the 100th minute, the referee blew his whistle for full time.
Following the 2-2 draw with Gornal, it means both clubs are level on points (97), with Knowle now left needing 4 points from their last three games to secure the Midland League Division One title.
@Knowle_FC tweeted: “What an ending this would’ve been 😩 2-2 and launching a counter attack in the 100th minute with their keeper in our box and the ref blows up… 🤔 #UpTheRobins | #100thYear”
Matt Seeley (@Seeley789) then said: “Quite frankly the worst decision I’ve ever seen in football! Running the ball into an empty to net to win a league title and he blows up! Insane 🤯🤯🤯🤯”
98th minute. 2-1 down. League on the Line.

Here’s the social media reaction after manager Matt Seeley fumes after the referee ends the game just as team were about to win non league title…
@ItsLennnn said: “Just done some digging on this. Knowle have two games in hand. 97 pts from 37. Gornal have 97 points from 39. 40 games in their division (one team dropped out). They equalise in the 98th minute, opposition need a win. If they score this they win the league. Ref blows 😭”
@CRPJ29: 100% cheating cannot tell me anything different. Referee must be getting some of that heavy gornal dolla 🤌🏻 💰
@HarryReece: The explanation I thought may have been a little exaggerated, fuck me this is criminal, if you gonna blow fucking blow when the corners cleared, wild 🤣🤣🤣 names on the title either way tho 🙌
@paulknight1976: Should have played on there, scandalous decision to blow up at that point. Would have been a great moment for you lot with the stick you got of the locals
@Bakes_1981: Fuck me my head would have fallen off, not that it matters mate as I can’t see you not getting the pts needed but I get that it would have been picture book ending
@CRPJ29: Fair fucking play to seeley and his boys but that last counter attack where the ref blew up was CRIMINAL worst decision I’ve ever seen.
@TU1junior: Corruption – Gornal definitely paid the ref he was doing all he could all night to back the yams. You just can’t keep little old knowle down tho.
@TrooperFC_: Wow horrendous that is 🤦🏻♂️

@AVFCVillano: If time was up, then time was up? It completely depends on whether he blew early or not.
@kieshithimself: Gets worse every time I watch it! Even waits to see if the Knowle player is tackled so they can put it back in the box 😂
@RefsJourney: The clock is the clock, there’s no added time for ‘we’ll just keep playing because it’s exciting’ even in a high stakes game. However, the ref hasn’t helped himself there at all, should have blown as soon as the ball gets headed out
@stuarthow11: Never seen anything like it! I would get the game replayed if I was you 😜
@TU1junior: Best game of football I’ve seen for years Matt. I was extremely proud of the team coming back from 2-0 down like that. What a team and culture you have created for our community. Thanks for putting knowle on the map ❤️
@matthew62247122: Maybe the ref had said before the play that it was last play of the match 🤷🏻♂️ Would’ve been worse if he had said that and allowed the players to run off and score lol
@dash71_: ⚽️… as harsh as it may seem on @Knowle_FC, the referee was quite within his rights to blow when he deemed time was up. Perhaps it’s time to look at, where the ref would make a clear signal indicating the half/match would end once the ball goes out of play?!
@HamptonianMan: He is “within his rights” at any point after 90 minutes (he added 1 min in the first half in which there was a head injury stoppage, two goals and a missed penalty). Whether he has the right to is not in dispute. Whether he should have… see what the majority of responses think.
@Rich_BCFC: Except it’s not though is it? Time was probably up following the corner meaning he can’t continue for the integrity of the league you may not like it but he’s made the right decision
@cabmanglyn: Great game to watch as a neutral, some great scenes. That decision summed up his performance, caused unnecessary chaos all night!!!
@TheCellsView: 2 down in title decider equalize in 95th minute then clean through to win the league at your rivals 98th and the ref blows up with empty net. Disgraceful refereeing
@thegafferalex: What is the referee even thinking here 😭 something ain’t right
@carterb1996: That’s probably the worst decision in football from top to bottom I’ve ever seen🤯🤯🤯
