Man City sadly confirm death of fan following medical emergency during derby against Man Utd

Man City have sadly had to confirm the death of a fan following a medical emergency that took place during the derby against Man Utd.

Manchester City took to social media, announcing the supporter has lost their life after an incident near an entrance to the ground.

A statement from the club’s social media account read: ‘Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.

‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’

Craig Brown (@craigSBrown93) replied: “He was 70, had a heart attack.

“been a city fan all his life, had the same seat in the etihad since the day it opened.

“25 years of going with him. Home and away . Gone but never forgotten

“RIP BUDGE 💙💙”

Eyewitnesses have spoken to Manchester Evening News about what happened at around 4.10pm near one of the entrances to the stadium, with it claimed that several people were left ‘traumatised’ after watching stewards tried to save the man.

A witness, who wants to remain anonymous, said: “It was about 10 past 4. We were going into the grounds at entrance K and the gent was on the floor having CPR performed on him. It had just happened as there were only a few people in front of us.

“There was one steward working on him, and we were all screaming for them to get a defibrillator. It was chaos.

“A young girl ran over to get the defibrillator. At this point more stewards came running over and formed a circle around him.

“They worked on him for a long time, about 20 minutes and he was taken into an ambulance. We are all traumatised by it.”

A Bruno Fernandes penalty and Amad Diallo strike saw Man Utd produce a late comeback, City led until the 88th-minute courtesy of Josko Gvardiol’s header but collapsed in the closing stages.

The result puts further pressure on Pep Guardiola, whose side have only won one of their last 11 games in all competitions, extending the club’s worst run of form since 2006.
