Maldon & Tiptree reveal new club crest and surprise with ‘statement of intent’ signings

Maldon & Tiptree reveal a brand new club crest which has divided fans along with a few ‘statement of intent’ signings.

It’s all change at the Isthmian League North Division outfit, with new owners, new manager, new crest, new signings and an ambition of climbing these leagues.

Maldon & Tiptree FC tweeted this week: “Our Number 1, Your Number 1! 🧤 STATEMENT OF INTENT

“WELCOME, Elliot Justham! This showstopping player, who you’ll find between the sticks, IS A JAMMER 🍓

“Following his departure from @daggersfcofficial last week, Justham has signed a long term contract at Park Drive, making him part of a NEW ERA… and a Hollywood Film 🎥 👀

“Elliot has represented England at England C.

“Welcome, GARY HOOPER

“Back to where it started in 2002 with the Jammers 🍓

“Signing video, goal fest Spielberg video, coming soon featuring goals scored for @CelticFC, @NorwichCityFC, @SUFCOfficial and @SUFCRootsHall to name a few…”

In a further post, they revealed a new club crest, which judging by the online reaction, didn’t go down too well. We’ll let you be a judge of it, but we have to say we’re much more a fan of the one before the change…

Maldon & Tiptree said: “A NEW ERA 🍓

“Means a new club badge, at a meeting held at the ground last night over 100 fans voted unanimously for this new club badge to take us into a modern era as we look to bring the club into a modern 21st century outlook, whilst looking to move up the football pyramid.

“A vote was taken this evening with nearly 100 fans in attendance where they all voted unanimously for a new club badge to take us into a new future, to be launched immediately and implemented from top to bottom of the club for the start of next season.”

Kevin Horlock said that non-league Maldon & Tiptree have the potential to “go anywhere” under their new owners after returning to the club as manager.

He quit Needham Market to drop two levels and return to the club where he was previously in charge from 2016-18.

He admits he was still “wet behind the ears” in his first spell at the club, however, he now has the experience to bring success to The Jammers, who were bought by the Drewitt-Barlow Organisation in what they say was a “multi-million pound deal”.

“It could go to league football like they’ve said, (but) it’s a process that has to be done slowly, it doesn’t happen overnight, but the foundations are in place now and it’s up to myself, the staff and the players to produce,” Horlock told BBC Essex.

Maldon & Tiptree fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Haringey Borough on Saturday, and with only nine wins out of 30 leagues matches this season, sitting 15th in the table.

Horlock said before the game that they have “healthy budget” to work with going forwards, compared to other clubs in the 8th tier of English football.

“It’s exciting times, I’ve had to pinch myself a little bit,” he said.

“They’ve given me all the tools to be successful, so if I’m not, it’s on me.

“They’re good people, they’re serious about this football club and I’m lucky, and privileged, that they’ve trusted in me to be manager.”

“Just because they’re wealthy people, I’m not here to waste money. I’ll put a team together and if I can save money and do that, less than the budget, I will, of course,” Horlock said.

“The pressure is on – but I like that. Pressure in football is something that I craved in my playing days, so to have that pressure on me to produce a team to get out of step four (of non-league football), I relish and look forward to it.”

He added: “I was wet behind the ears before. I understand football (now), I think I’ve learned a lot in terms of dealing with players, because everybody’s different, they’re individuals although it’s a team sport.

“I think my managerial credentials have gone up in that department and my biggest strength is bringing people together and players wanting to play for me. If players like you, they’ll run through walls for you.”

Twitter users reacted as Maldon & Tiptree reveal a new club crest and surprise with ‘statement of intent’ signings…

ON THE CREST:

@kingshrimper: Horrible, basic generic badge with no nods to the clubs history

@bwinnumbers: Awful that

@LeeGlynnGK: I like it

@Ooooo_pagey: Old badge was unique this looks terrible

@jakejenner07: Massive downgrade that

@Archiecolu: What in the free badge maker is that

@colu180: 🤮🤮

@max_clarke_: Was this created on a random badge generator? I’ve never seen something so basic 😂😂

@wickers841: It’s nice that you allowed a local play school to get involved in the badge design. Real community club 👍

@EdSmith_2001: In comes the money, out goes the identity. Were these 100 fans held at gunpoint until they said yes? 🤣

@georgejones_01: That is absolutely horrific 😂😂 definitely AI generated

@WillTaylorr0: Yeah lets rip the soul out of the club

@theadamwade: Horrendous BTEC MLS nonsense. Letting money take away your identity.

@BrentP90: Looks bloody terrible, a real own goal here. Most will agree
