Magic of the FA Cup continues as League Two Stevenage knock out Premier League Aston Villa

Magic of the FA Cup continues as League Two Stevenage knock out Premier League Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, shocking the nation.

It was in the 33rd minute that Unai Emery’s side took the lead, and what a great time it was to score your first goal for the club. Morgan Sanson with the smart finish but the one-touch build-up leading to the chance was very impressive.

Then there was Late, late drama as the referee initially awards a free-kick on the edge of the box but then changes his mind and points to the spot.

VAR had a look at it. A roar erupts from in the away end. The penalty stands.

It was clinical by Jamie Reid from the spot as the League Two club equalise deep in the game.

Then on the 90th minute, Stevenage looked like they were going out moments ago. Now they’re on the brink of a huge upset.

Dean Campbell beats the keeper with a drilled finish and the 3,000 travelling Stevenage fans are going wild.

Villa fans were left shell-shocked. The Premier League club dominated possession but suffer yet another third round exit. Their League Two opponents are in dreamland.

Dion Dublin (Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live): “Stevenage have hung in there. They made sure it didn’t go to 2-1 and defended really well.

“They find themselves a corner then Villa are on asleep on it. Easy goal.”

The result means that Aston Villa lose in the FA Cup for an EIGHTH successive game. Stevenage will now take on Stoke in thee next round.

Opta Stat write “1964 – Aston Villa have lost an FA Cup match against fourth tier opposition while they themselves have been competing in the top-flight for the first time since 1964 versus Aldershot. They have also lost a club-record eight consecutive games in the competition. Infamy.”

EIGHT Premier League clubs have fallen at the first hurdle in the FA Cup this weekend:

Everton
Crystal Palace
Bournemouth
Nottingham Forest
Brentford
Newcastle United
Chelsea
Aston Villa

One more tie to go. Arsenal are at League One Oxford United on Monday (20:00 GMT). See the FA Cup Fourth Round draw by clicking HERE.

This is what fans ad to say as the Magic of the FA Cup continues with League Two Stevenage going on to knock out Premier League Aston Villa…

@Dan_Clarkey: Fully deserved, you guys made a hell of a noise and proved the magic of the cup. Good luck in the next round, may as well win it now lads ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Mattqu: Stevenage deserved that. Terrible! But also not unexpected despite the improvements under Emery. Weโ€™ve no pace, dribblers or target men across our squad – without any of that, always going to struggle against well organised team, defending deep. #avfc

@TheBlueFallows:
Born in Birmingham.
Raised and live in Stevenage.
Just watched Stevenage beat Aston Villa.
And both the Stevenage and Birmingham City FC support selves are both feeling well chuffed and amused at the same time.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! โค๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

@AP_VILLAN: There was only 1 team up for it tonight – Fair play Stevenage ๐Ÿ‘ As for Villa, we took Stevenage lightly, thought weโ€™re 1 nil up and will win and switch off not once but twice to give away a pen and then a free shot on goal off a corner. Poor performance #avfc

@TheHolteHub: Well done lads, fully deserved โ™ฅ๏ธ Class Fans too ๐Ÿ™‚

@Dalkeef1981: Congratulations – you played extremely well and thoroughly deserved that – enjoy – Thatโ€™s the magic of the cup ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

@MorecambeFCFeed: From where we both were 3 seasons ago, incredible!! Congratulations!

@JackWhidden3: Well done! Congrats from a Villa fan. Enjoy it and best of luck.

@paulsut81475964: Well done from a stoke they think league 2 players aren’t as good or as fit well credit to stevenage the players put everything in and at the end they look World beaters full of energy and battled to the end and were dangerous too looking forward to you coming stoke ๐Ÿ‘

kylefear01: Well bloody done from an Oโ€™s fan. Fully deserved Love to see it. Also helping us out a little in the league. More games for you ๐Ÿ˜‰

@MJayyyB: Fully deserved lads, enjoy the run! Hopefully plays out for both sides with a mass redundancy for Villa tomorrow.

@mr_tarka1971: Well if anybody wondered if our strength in depth is capable, today we have all seen the answer. Not bitter about losing, Stevenage deserved the winโ€ฆ Well played them ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

@ClaretBlueAVFC: Embarrassing! If it was at Stevenage it would be somewhat ok as the magic of the cup and all that, but to lose at home with that starting line up and the subs we made is totally unacceptable. Some of these lot should never wear the Villa shirt again #AVFC

@RooksPaul: Enjoy your cup run more than well deserved better team by far, do the same to Stoke
