Newly relegated Macclesfield Town and National League playoff semi-finalists Barnet both lose their head coach, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
The Bees were the first to confirm the departure of their manager, which has left their supporters surprised as well as saddened.
The club finished in the season by securing a playoff place after the National League table was based on points-per-game, seeing them swap 11th for 7th.
They managed to beat Yeovil Town 2-0 in the quarter final eliminators, however went on to lose by the same scoreline at Notts County (who lost to Harrogate in the playoff final).
A statement from the club said: “Barnet Football Club can today (12th August) announce that Head Coach Darren Currie and Assistant Coach Junior Lewis have left the Club.
“Barnet Football Club would like to put on record our thanks to both Darren and Junior for their efforts and hard work during their time with the Club.
“We will release a more detailed statement in due course.”

Darren Currie took to Twitter to speak out on the decision, saying: “Bees, it’s been a pleasure to be the manager of this football club, 18 months I won’t forget plus so many highlights that make me proud.
“You fans have been so supportive I can’t thank you enough I will always look back so fondly on our relationship during my playing days and now at the start of managerial career so thank you from the bottom of my heart’.
“My players my boys, every single one of you I love to bits, thank you for your effort I will watch your careers like a proud Dad.
“My staff my team during my time Junior, Sean, Luigi, Sarah, Amy, Dan, George, Kostas and Senda Without you guys I was nothing so thank you.”
Despite being linked with the Southend United job, a reporter close to the club has already stated that his departure is nothing to do with the vacancy.

Macclesfield Town then confirmed just after lunchtime that they also were without a manager, just less than 24 hours after having relegation confirmed.

The club statement read: “Macclesfield Town can confirm that Head Coach Mark Kennedy and Assistant Head Coach Danny Butterfield have both decided to reject contract offers ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
“The Club would like to thank both Mark and Danny for their efforts at the Moss Rose and wish them well for the future.
“We will now begin the search for their replacements and will provide a further update in due course.”

And good luck to them too Lee. I’m personally glad he didn’t get/accept the Southend job, (more of a shambles than we are if that’s possible). Someone will come in with a good job for them.

Like you I have supported the Bees for over 50+ years & this is the saddest day of all!
— Ian Elliot (@JWTBee) August 12, 2020
At what point is tk going to explain how he sees the club going as there has been nothing other than a complete exodus from the club and no vision for what is going to happen in the short term let alone long term. No point in having a £50m development without the club to play

Sad state of affairs! ?

Is there anyone left? Club is dead. No players, no manager, no sponsors. Might as well just call it a day

You obviously don’t know about the chairman. Killed the club for his own personal gain.
