Luke Shaw hits back at Jose Mourinho’s talkSPORT comments in a savage response with the feud intensifying during the Euros.
It is well-known that the Manchester United player and his former Red Devils manager do not see eye to eye, with the pair having a miserable relationship during their shared time at Old Trafford.
Initially made public by Mourinho, Shaw has been the subject of some vicious digs by the ‘special one’ for over four years, but now the England international has finally responded in spectacular fashion.
After Mourinho claimed Shaw’s corner kicks were ‘dramatically bad’ while on England duty at Euro 2020, Shaw has questioned why he is still receiving criticism from his former manager.
“Clearly I am in his head a lot and he clearly thinks about me a lot,” Shaw claimed, before conceding even some of his international teammates have asked “What’s his problem?”
By now, it is well-documented that Luke Shaw and Jose Mourinho do not see eye to eye, the pair enduring a miserable relationship during their shared time at the Premier League giants.
Initially made public by Mourinho, Shaw has been the subject of vicious digs by the self-proclaimed special one for more than four years, but now the England international has finally responded in spectacular fashion.
“He continuously talks about me, which I find quite strange. Even some of the lads have said ‘what’s his problem?’ and ‘why does he keep talking?’ He just needs to move on.”
It is the first time Shaw has voiced his anger on what the three-time Premier League winning boss had to say of late.
The first dig came all the way back in 2015, where Mourinho called Shaw’s tactical decision and football brain into question after a 1-1 draw with Everton.
Mourinho spent the entire 90 minutes ferociously shouting out orders at Shaw, before telling the media after the full-time whistle: “He [Shaw] was in front of me and I was making every decision for him.
“He has to change his football brain. We need his fantastic physical and technical qualities, but he cannot continue to play with my brain.”
Just two years later, Shaw was again slammed, as his manager revealed that he “cannot compare the way he trains [with team-mates], the way he commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind.”
He continued, “‘It is about seeing everyone as individuals and human beings, I did spend a lot of time speaking to individuals and Luke as well. He is a boy I enjoy talking to, I enjoy trying to help him. He wants to be better.
“It was about getting him to enjoy his football. We know his talent, but it was trusting his fitness, injury-wise, having players who can back him up.”
While we usually see majority of footballers placed into two categories when it comes to their mentally, a ‘arm round the shoulder’ type, or alternatively a ‘tough love’ character – Mourinho’s comments seems to go well beyond any form of tough love.
That is not to say Shaw was an innocent victim in all of this, as reports suggest there were a number of times his professionalism was found wanting.
Another report explains how he arrived late to the training complex, armed with the kind of excuse that you’d get from school children.
Shaw, 23, claimed he had overslept and his Mum had forgot to wake him.
Since Mourinho’s exit, Shaw, until recently, has remained measured in his answers when asked about his turbulent time under Jose.
“It was a mixed relationship,” the defender revealed to SPORTbible.
“A lot of the things that happened between us two, sometimes he went about it in the right way. I think a lot of people will agree with that at the club.
“Our relationship wasn’t the best. It was probably quite easy to see that from the outside. But one thing Jose did do was make me mentally much stronger. I think mental strength is what I would describe that period under Jose Mourinho.”
Shaw has already shielded himself from much of the insults sent to him.
In 2017, Mourinho was asked what Shaw has to do to make a matchday squad, to which he responded “Who?”
Fast forward to today; nearly three years since Mourinho was dismissed at Manchester United, Shaw’s career has since picked up back to his best.
Establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, Shaw has played two of England’s opening three games at Euro 2020.
Fans reacted as Luke Shaw hits back at Jose Mourinho’s talkSPORT comments in his savage response…
@kayago69: 😂 My Left Back
@ORohitO: Luke Shaw has proper rinsed Mourinho.
@Mohnice_: At the time Jose probably had all the right to criticize Luke Shaw who suffers double leg break, but recently he’s been a completely different player, much more confident on the ball and improved defensively. Jose is just a grumpy obsessed old man that lives 2 decades ago
@HH_imo: All Luke Shaw are we not?
@GazFitzy: Mourinho is just a bitter bitter man
@NIDHALL_: Luke Shaw shouldn’t have fell for that, we know he’s not the strongest mentally and his confidence can be affected at times, Mourinho will step up his game now after that attack and don’t know if Shaw can handle it
@Jamieonthisday: Very damning on Mourinho.
@brian_lilly: Luke Shaw living rent free in Jose’s head. Sad really.
@bigwesmoraes: Jose isn’t wrong on this one, chilwell is miles better.
@daves393: It appears that “The special one” chooses a player to single out , Shaw, Ali, then turns the screw , when the time is right he gets the squad to turn against him, gets sacked gets payed out . 65 million so far, He’s very special.
@Stu763: What Mourinho did to Shaw was nothing but a middle aged man bullying a young man, in the national media. If it was any other industry something would’ve been said about it. Unfortunately the English media were so in love with Mourinho he could get away with it.
@Cypriot_Gooner: Constant criticism comes possible because he turned down the chance to sign for Chelsea when at Southampton. Wouldn’t put it past Jose and his ego, that a player turned down a chance to play for the “special one”
@menz2004: Maybe he just likes players to be professional and not show up for pre-season 3 Stone overweight!?
@InsideForward10: Without Jose Mourinho, Luke Shaw wouldn’t have any trophies in his career
@jamiecweir: I hope Dele Alli reads the Luke Shaw quotes this morning and realises the psychological toll that constant bullying can have on a young player’s form, and how he – as Shaw has done – can now turn a corner and show his true potential again
@_gps04: I am so glad, and absolutely love seeing Luke Shaw give Mourinho a taste of his own medicine… That man tried to destroy Luke, but fair play to the lad, he’s knuckled down, worked hard and turned into one of if not the best left back in the country…

Luke Shaw has gone up even further in my estimations with his bullying comments. He’s turned his career around in the last 12 months. He is physically & mentally stronger & you can see it every time he steps on the pitch. Credit to the lad, his family and his manager #UTFR pic.twitter.com/T0mMbtQNp9
