Lowest ranked club left in the Carabao Cup cause an upset against Championship side

Burton Albion have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup for the first time in their club’s history after beating Nottingham Forest 3-2 tonight.

The lowest ranked side left in the competition had never reached beyond the Third Round before this season, but after four victories including tonight’s win which saw goals from Fraser (2) and Hesketh, the Brewers are now just two more wins away from reaching the Final.

The first goal of tonight’s match didn’t come until the 52nd minute when Scott Fraser hit the ball from 25 yards only for it to take a big, looping deflection into the net.

12 minutes later, it was a second for Burton Albion’s Fraser who was left unmarked in the box and finished coolly inside Steele’s near post.

With 20 minutes of the 90 to play, Nottingham Forest gave themselves a lifeline when they got one back through Lewis Grabban’s right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner.

The 84th minute saw the Brewers two goals ahead again when Hesketh timed it perfectly and unleashed a belter past Steele.

The hosts didn’t make it easy for themselves however after getting another one back through Appiah in injury time.

Burton Albion held on to book at place in Wednesday night’s draw, they join Bournemouth who beat Norwich also tonight.

Football fans took to Twitter to praise Burton’s win at full time at the final whistle – take a look at what they’re saying on the next page.
