Liam Manning reveals his objectives, expectations and vision for Huddersfield Town

Liam Manning reveals his objectives, expectations and vision for Huddersfield Town in his first interview since taking the job.

He said in a 23 minute interview, which can be seen below, that he has learnt from setbacks and looks to build resilience, while also prioritising people, culture, behaviours, and long-term club respect over quick fixes.

Manning wants to see his players run, compete, fight, and show total commitment in every match, to deliver results, with that the bare minimum in order to earn respect from supporters, to build that connection with the fanbase, and to create memories.

Regarding his playing style, he wants to be pragmatic and flexible, not rigidly possession-based, with the focus on forward play, showing bravery, having responsibility, pressing, hard work, energy, aggression, and finding ways to win rather than safe passing.

STATEMENT:

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Liam Manning has spoken to HTTV for the first time since his arrival, stating his objectives and expectations, his experience coming into the job, and how much he is looking forward to the future.

Manning arrived in HD1 on Tuesday afternoon, and has since held two training sessions, getting to grip with his squad, and putting them through their paces ahead of this weekend’s West Yorkshire derby against Bradford City.

Aware of the prestigious history of the Terriers, the Head Coach’s aspirations show a clear alignment with Club’s vision for both the short and long-term future. In an in depth discussion in the Head Coach’s Office at the Accu Stadium, he went into further detail as to why the opportunity to take the reigns at Huddersfield Town was the right step in his career.

Manning explained: “From what I’ve seen with the squad, and when you look at player’s CV’s, this is a really strong and talented group of players. I’ve seen it in the first two days of training, and we have to take that into the game this weekend.

“There are numerous aspects of where things go right, and where things go wrong. For me, it’s looking at where things are at, and trying to understand how do we take some of the positives from what’s in place already, add some bits from what we think is going to make a big impact, and make sure that we go into the game ready.

“That is game-by-game, and as we have seen earlier this season, there is no reason why this team can’t go on a run of results, which is what we are going to need to do to obviously get where we want to be.

“All my energy will be going into making sure that on Saturday that we are up, ready to fight, and ready to give everything for the shirt, and get a win.

“I think the game is based on people. I grew up treating people as you would want to be treated. It’s about respect and honesty when it comes to people questioning things that are right and wrong. That’s hugely important for me and we have to live that.

“When it’s most special is when you get everybody pulling in the same direction. That’s my plea, and that’s what I’d love, that’s what I think, come Saturday, everybody leave it all out there.

“From the first whistle to the last whistle, let’s leave absolutely everything out there. That will be my final message to the lads.

“We will be doing everything and understanding the importance to the fans. You have to create a connection, and create a bond. We have to earn the right to do that, but it’s also understanding how you do that, and they’re the bits that we will be pushing really hard on.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Liam Manning reveals his objectives, expectations and vision for Huddersfield Town…

@JonesLee1231977: Watched the first interview with Manning on YouTube. I don’t like the questioning style from Raj – felt like an integration. Let him focus on the coaching and not all this media stuff – we are in league one not pushing for promotion from championship . Reality check #htafc

@Southn_Terriers: Liam Manning’s first interview. He came a cross very well. Good luck Liam.

@TerrierYeadon: Very impressive.

@ThatTownFan: Liam Manning. Another wonderful talker. #htafc #htfc

@Sambeau03971511: It’s Exactly the same rhetoric as all the other managers. We will see where we are at after 10 games

@DylanCurtis1902: He’s already mentioned “non-negotiables”. These lot are in for a long rest of the season…. #ncfc

@billyadams1114: Speaks well, seems honest and not disillusioned as to what the current state of things are. Let’s get behind him and the lads and help them push on. We as a fan base have to accept responsibility for the culture at the club too. UTT 🔵⚪️🔵

@kjrwill3423: Might not get promotion this year. But give the lad a chance. Let him put his team together. But will the Huddersfield board and fans have the patience for him to do that. I’m a Lincoln fan and it’s took scooby 2 season’s to get us in the position we are now

@TiminSuffolk: Heard “group” mentioned about ten times 🤦. Raj, have a word 😊. Seriously though best of luck Liam. A lot easier on the ear than robo-grant. And as a family who went through the same as you did with your son, you have our sincere sympathies. Check out the forget-me-not hospice in Huddersfield if you ever need to speak to professionals. They were brilliant with our family. Good luck and win on Saturday and you’ll be an instant hero so no pressure 😊

@Big_Fudge98: Please Liam manning save us 🙌🏼

@keithyb32ify: Sideways and backwards hope we reduce that

@King-chronicz: Please replace Raj crap interviewer Red flag already called them the group ffs 🤣

@SuperReasonable: We wanted him to succeed at Norwich, he’s a decent guy, but it didn’t work out and his expensively assembled team went on the worst run in the 123yr history of the club. Clement has turned Norwich around and I suspect Manning is not suited to building and developing a completely new squad. It looks like he’s better to take over an already established squad as he did at Bristol City. When he left Norwich, one of his parting comments was that bringing in a different head coach will not make a difference. How wrong he was and I think it underlines what I said about his strengths and weaknesses. I hope he is successful with Huddersfield, best of luck Liam.

@AndyFirth-o7z: Very positive interview. Liked his honesty. Let’s see how that translates to the way we play and the results. But let’s give him time and a chance. Fans need to be positive and not toxic. We all want the team to be a success. UTT 💙🤍
