Leeds United reveal first artist impressions of what expanded Elland Road could look like

Leeds United reveal first artist impressions of what expanded Elland Road could look like, having first announced plans in September 2024.

The project aims to increase the stadium’s capacity from 37,645 to approximately 53,000, with a potential maximum of 56,500.

Leeds City Council’s Executive Board approved the regeneration vision, and a Plans Panel meeting is scheduled for May 8, 2025, to discuss the pre-application.

The expansion includes upgrading the West and North Stands and modifying the South Stand to improve general admission and hospitality facilities, addressing the demand from 26,000 supporters on the season ticket waiting list.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Last week, Leeds City Council’s Executive Board unanimously agreed the regeneration vision and Councillors will now be discussing the pre-application for the modernisation of Elland Road Stadium at a Plans Panel meeting on Thursday 8th May 2025, with the view to increase the capacity from 37,645 to up to 56,500. The estimated final capacity of the design in progress is approximately 53,000.

An evolution of what makes Elland Road great, the revitalisation of the West and North Stands, along with changes to the South Stand, will provide greatly improved general admission and hospitality facilities, to help meet the demand for tickets, with 26,000 supporters currently on the club’s season ticket waiting list.

Fans and members of the local community can visit a public exhibition at the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road, which will be open from Thursday 22nd May 2025-Friday 23rd May 2025, or one of two consultation events as part of a community roadshow in Leeds:

Fans reacted as Leeds United reveal the first artist impressions of what expanded Elland Road could look like…

@El_Loco_Jo: Looks a bit posh. #lufc

@lufcpricey: Hopefully good times ahead. Bittersweet for me because I love Elland Road as is but suppose it has to happen 🥲

@IsraelWhites: Reading the replies, seems like the vast majority of fans would prefer a one tier kop. Be interesting to see if the club will listen to the fans or totally ignore our voice. (I appreciate it’s cheaper and quicker to add a tier onto the kop) #LUFC

@MissVJFxx: That new Elland Road concept looks beautiful.

@markydh: I wouldn’t say it’s aesthetically pleasing, but upgrading an existing Stadium rather than going for a new build is always going to be limiting #lufc

@LSBrand9: So fucking happy we are improving the ground and not smashing it down and building a new one. Hats off to the beautiful bastards who made that decision. Elland Road (and Headingley 🦏) is Leeds. ⚪️🔵🟡

@lufcatx: I hope there’s an effort to salvage the red-bricked walls at the NE corner entrance. Protect or box them off as a heritage/art installation or something. #lufc

@93KRISH: Unreal design, not souless like the rest! Still got that Elland Road authenticity about it …….Regal 😍💙💛 #lufc

@EllandRoadJoker: Unreal. Avoided the ultra modern soulless look. Keeps the feel of character to the ground. #lufc

@Domss93: Wow! The concept video for the new rebuild at Elland Road! #lufc 😍

@LUFC_Henry: Surely the Kop should be one tier??

@BenBoo1984: Get them boxes out the back of the South Stand and replace with seats. Safe standing put in across the whole top tier.

@DaveKWilliams: Feels like a combination of St James Park and the Amex, and I don’t hate it #lufc

@LufcZovic: This is what you call long term investment & backing on and off the pitch! How can anyone criticise the 49ers? #LUFC

@AntonyCarlHiggs: Ok, that looks good very nice indeed. Just like Anfield tbf! Just hope IF it happens I can get in being 13,542th in the season ticket queue 😂 #lufc

@Radebe_Leeds: They’ve absolutely nailed this. New Elland Road looks unreal! #lufc

@LewisDeighton17: My only, ONLY criticism is a two-tier kop end, but hey it’s only an initial concept and at least it doesn’t look like something that belongs in Dubai. Beautiful. #LUFC

@HealyFtbl: I’m genuinely in shock. Start the renovations now! 🤣🤩 #LUFC

@LeeScott321: Lovely that 😍 So happy it doesn’t look like some soulless bowl or a fucking circus tent #lufc

@LufcApl: If we can get the stadium done it would be a HUGE step towards re-establish this club among the top in the country & across Europe. It’s silly but things like stadiums matter when you want to attract top talent. It would put us on par capacity wise with City & Newcastle #lufc

@lufcThommo: Stunning! Blown me away TBH 😍👏🏼

@Chris1014Lee: Oh wow 😮😍 My club #lufc #MOT

@WM80_: Looks so strange seeing ER not as we’ve seen it for god knows long, assume the same people who did Anflied are involved, similar feel to it.
