It was Leeds United’s 100th birthday on Thursday and the side announce ambitious stadium redevelopment plans to their supporters.
The Whites’ managing director Angus Kinnear said the club plans to take the capacity of Elland Road from 37,890 to 50,000 in the near future.

The proposal also includes seeing the West Stand being raised to match the height of the East Stand, and the club believe if they get that long awaited promotion to the Premier League, they would be able to fill it out.
Kinnear said: “In our centenary year we’re very proud to announce a partnership with the council on two initiatives.
“They fall under the title of Vision Elland Park. You notice that is a far cry from the Beeston we see today.
“Part of it is around the stadium and taking our stadium up to 50,000 and turning it into a true ground which can compete with other stadiums in the Premier League and in Europe.”
Leeds haven’t played in the Premier League since the 2003/2004 season and many still regard them as among the biggest clubs in the country with three top-flight titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup to their name.
Their current record attendance sits at 57,982 when they played against Sunderland in 1967, prior to seating being put in place.

The 2018/19 season was the closest in a long while that they got close to sealing their place in the top flight but Marcelo Biela’s side lost 4-2 on aggregate to Derby County in the playoff semi-finals.
Leeds currently sit fifth in the Championship table but have sat at the top on six occasions already.
Speaking on their centenary chairman Andrea Radrizzani told the club’s official website: “It is a very important day, 100 years is not for everybody. We are old enough to remember our past, but also still very young and determined to have a bright future.
“I think it is a great moment and opportunity to feel the history and use it as motivation for approaching the future.”
