Leeds United fans says they are ‘very concerned’ about plans to move away fans into a section of the South Stand at Elland Road.
The club is facing calls for transparency regarding the proposal which was allegedly spotted in planning documents for the stadium’s redevelopment.
Plans are to expand Elland Road’s capacity from 36,000 to 53,000, starting with enhancements to the West Stand and a new North Stand, with planning permission submitted in summer 2025.
While 98% of consulted supporters back the redevelopment, the potential move of away fans to the South Stand, known for its unique atmosphere, has sparked concerns.
The Leeds United Supporters Trust strongly opposes the idea and is seeking clarity on whether it’s temporary or permanent. The club has not officially commented but insists no final decisions have been made.
Graham Smyth writes: “Leeds United asked for ‘full transparency’ on South Stand away fans proposal spotted in planning document. No official comment from Leeds at this stage, club sources insisting nothing is set in stone yet.:

As per a club statement on July 8th: “Leeds United Football Club are pleased to announce a planning application has been submitted to Leeds City Council for the enhancement of Elland Road Stadium.
“This follows the conclusion of thorough public consultations throughout April, May and June, where supporters and the local community were invited to share feedback on the proposals.
“The results from the consultation questionnaire were overwhelmingly in favour, with 98 per cent of respondents supporting the club’s overall proposals to enhance Elland Road Stadium.”

LUFC Trust tweeted: “We’re very concerned about plans to move away fans into the South Stand.
“The South Stand has a unique atmosphere, pretty much unrivalled in English football, and needs to be preserved.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that we would be strongly against any such move.

@LUFC Nobody wants away fans in the South Stand. Bite the bullet on the extra £1m a year it’d generate and leave two standing ends behind the goal for fuck’s sake.
1 like = 1 petition to fuck off that idea. Cheers. #LUFC pic.twitter.com/Iwn8GCHxe0

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, our south stand is the best home stand in the country

As mentioned, Leeds fans are ‘very concerned’ about plans to move away fans into a section of the South Stand…
@_lufcsam: Just hope you stand firm on this and don’t buckle as soon as they offer you a few free away tickets 👍🏼
@super_leeds70: I voted to move them to the top of East Stand #LUFC
@lufcanne: I’ve been a STH for a long time and I’ve spent probably the last 10 years in the SS. I have mobility issues following surgery and no way could I get up to the top of the west stand. Also fellow fans around me are my support in the ground #nothappy
@aidenlufc: Away fans in the south stand, RIP Elland Road. Well played @LUFC fucking idiots.
@jackbowerss: Don’t accept anything less than keeping the southstand as it is!
@GiantLeedsFan: I appreciate and endorse this movement by the trust although I would also like to see the trust give an alternative suggestion also.
@joshlufc91: So away fans will be going in the South Stand then. Great. That will kill it. Well done you absolute dickheads @LUFC
@lufc_joel: If it’s true about the south stand then they are well and truly gonna ruin one of the last remaining proper football grounds in England. Goals are scored at the kop end and the north stand is quite loud but If they take away the south stand ER will never be the same again 😢
@DanSamme: The South Stand kept this club alive 15 years ago. The South Stand is the reason people talk about Elland Rd as a fortress. You use us for weekly “limbs” posts on social media yet you move us at the very first chance. If this happens, fuck you @LUFC. #lufc
@WeGetAnyDebt: Should be up in the gods like other grounds. Atmosphere and home advantage this way. Terrible idea giving them the SS
@LUFC_WorldWide: Putting the away fans in the South Stand is a crime. I would genuinely encourage a protest against it. Let’s remove the only stand that creates a hostile environment, yeah proper class that lads 👍
@ShabazA70010194: Absolutely correct the atmosphere comes from that side… the Kop is no longer the loudspeaker that it once used to b…the family stand and west stand resembles the type of atmospheres at other ground that is diluted cheers 🤣
@UnitedWhite: The club have always said they want to keep the atmosphere when they develop. This seems counterintuitive. The Boro league cup game had a weird atmosphere when they had some of the south.
@LUFCMike_: I speak for every #LUFC fan that we do not want the away fans to be relocated to the South Stand. LEAVE THE SOUTH STAND ALONE. It’s for the good of the fans and for the atmosphere of Elland Road.
@Jack9Sadler: Have a word with the club @lufctrust. Putting away fans in the south stand is never an option for the future, and not one supporter associated with the club would want this to happen
