Leeds United fans’ brutal chant for Dan James at Man Utd well and truly backfires with the player now set to join the Whites.

The West Yorkshire outfit are set to sign him up from Manchester United for a fee worth around £24m, more than two years after they almost signed the 23 year old on loan.

Despite starting the victory against Wolves on Sunday, the Welsh forward has been used sparingly at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the impending arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus means that James will no doubt fall further down the pecking order, with United also bringing in Jadon Sancho for £73m from Borussia Dortmund.

Leeds approached United over a deal and it is set to go through shortly given personal terms have already been agreed with James due to have his medical on Tuesday morning.

The Red Devils paid around £15m to sign James from Swansea in 2019 after a proposed loan move to join Leeds had collapsed in the January transfer window. Several other Premier League clubs are also believed to have also shown an interest in the player, who had three years remaining on his deal.

With this in mind, attention was quickly drawn onto a video that is now currently doing the rounds, showing Leeds fans chant “you’re too shit to play for Leeds”.

That was just a few weeks ago, little did they know that he would actually be on his way to Elland Road, and now the fanbase will have to quickly make up a new chant with a bit more respect as he is seemingly now one of their own.

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth on The Transfer Show: “United appear to be prepared to allow him to leave in this window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said as much when he was asked the question after Sunday’s win at Molineux, which James did start.

“But with the arrival of Jadon Sancho and potentially Ronaldo, James is going to find his first-team opportunities quite limited.

“There has been a lot of talk on social media about Leeds and we know they have a long-standing interest. On Deadline Day in February 2019, we had shots of James going into the reception at Leeds – it looked like it was a done deal, but that one fell through. In the next transfer window, he went to Man United.

“Leeds will monitor what Man United do and also what James wants to do as well. Definitely one to keep an eye on for Deadline Day.”

The winger had initially completed his medical at Leeds’ training ground two years ago, picking his squad number and even posed with the shirt only for him to head to Manchester United instead.

Leeds’ fly-on-the-wall documentary showed just how close James came to joining the Championship club in January 2019 on Deadline Day only for him to remain at Swansea for the rest of the season and then get snapped up by Manchester United for £15million that summer.
